If you’ve never tried, or even heard of, Bosnian food, this is the place to go have your first taste. You’ll really enjoy it. The food is a combination of East European and Mediterranean, that is stuffed cabbage, pitas, beef stews, and a fabulous lamb platter. We had the platter for two and it was tender and juicy. They rotisserie a whole lamb every day. The platter comes with two small salads and a large assortment of fruit. There are also east European beers and wines on the menu. The service can be slow when the restaurant first opens waiting for the food to finish being prepared – we came at 5:00and didn’t get our food until 6:00. But people who came around 6:00 were served right away. This was our second visit and would definitely go again.
Had the beef pita and it was excellent. The salad with it was good as well. We also appreciated the kid-friendly atmosphere– when the fruit that came with our meal ran out he offered to bring out more for the kids.
We had the lamb platter for two…..Excellent. A wonderful dining experience….! Wine, beer, salad, bread and lamb…..we will definitely be back!
This place is fantastic. The food is amazing and the service is warm and welcoming. The man who owns it gives you a history lesson on each dish and all of the food is truly authentic. We stopped in after walking through the town and had the most amazing cup of coffee served on a beautiful copper plate. The cabbage rolls were out of this world and their pita dishes are flakey and savory with a fantastic blend of spices. Dining here will be a new tradition when we visit Astoria.
Worst service ever. My husband and I went to Astoria just to eat at this restaurant we found online. The man that worked there ( a man on his 50s) was very rude and treated us as if we were not welcome. I don’t know if it was the fact that we were from another country ( we are Portuguese) or it was because he thought we were just kids ( we are in our 30s although we both look a lot younger) but he just kicked us out with his rudeness. He lost right there a potential customer because we went there just because it’s difficult to find roasted lamb anywhere else and we were planning on keep going in if we liked it. This man really hurt my feelings the way he acted
Perfect. One of the best Mediterranean restaurants I have come across anywhere in the US. This is home cooking with a touch of elegance. The chef uses only the freshest ingredients; the seasonings are authentic and delicious; the plating and presentation is beautiful: artful, original, but casual, and the service is warm, friendly, and efficient. Anyone who visits Astoria and misses this restaurant is missing an experience. This is a gifted chef.
Called at 8:45 PM to ask when they close, was told 10 PM. When we arrived at about 9:05, they had already closed up shop. Extremely disappointed.
