In converse to what you read below, this place was excellent from soup to nuts. We both had the fried chicken breast and it was fantastic. The scones and honey butter were enough to return. Great service, great ambience, great food. I’d definitely come back. UPDATE: Subsequent visits have been great for food, but horrid service. Took 45 minutes to get scones delivered.
Food was terrible, specially for what you pay for it. Food is overpriced and awfully bad! This place is a completely rip off, won’t ever go back and won’t recommend it to anybody.
Crappy. Slow service, poor service, average over priced food
Mothra Says…. Just Say No.. I asked a lot of my friends that have come from Bend for a recommendation for a dinner restaurant for a one night stay in Bend recently over the Labour Day weekend. 2 out of 3 recommended Pine Tavern for lunch or dinner. So to ensure a table, 4 days prior I made a reservation for 7pm. We arrived at 630 for a cocktail at the bar. Donny was a great bartender host and mixed K a terrific whiskey sour (she loved it) and me a (sorry Donny) a mediocre vodka martini. This drink had more ice in it than ice flows north of Greenland. Just too slushy and icey granular. However, Donny had great customer service skills… that you cannot teach. Good job Donny. After 30 minutes at the bar, we were seated by the hostess outside in the night aire, wow. That was unexpected. These tables were on the patio overlooking the slow lazy Deschutes River. Pine trees surrounding the patio lit with some night lights draped overhead. After a long 15 minutes our server (I am embarrassed to tell you his name) dropped by and immediately apologized profusely as he was being stretched tonight against his wishes both to inside and the outside tables. So he apologized in advance for his upcoming poor performance. I told him that K and I were not in any hurry so that should make his night a little easier. Off he ran. 10 minutes later I grabbed our server and asked him to open our bottle I brought with me: a 07 Napa Valley Benessere Black Glass Merlot. One of our best from the wine cellar de Mothra. However, he was too busy to stop. Another 5 minutes I grabbed our sever and asked for our bottle to be vented. Ok, Ill be right back. Another 12 minutes. Sigh.May I just shoot directly to the end of this review…. please? Poor service on a night where our server was stretched way too thin. And a night of dichotomies. Ks Cesar salad was average, but her grilled salmon was cooked perfectly. However, her polenta was rock hard cold and her parsnips were undercooked. My fried chicken was good not great, and I am so glad that I asked for the then unknown gravy to be on the side: cold chunky sausage gravy in a bowl. Yikes! That could have been disasterous. Chicken good, gravy not. Good beat salad over Arugula. Nice. I asked for my 07 merlot to be decanted and 10 minutes later he arrived with a decanter with a large chip in it: Please dont pour from the chipped end as there may be germs from that end. YA THINK! No shoot Sherlock. Wow! Pluses: Ks perfectly cooked grilled salmon, these fresh made southern biscuits with an amazing honey butter (however they ran out halfway through dinner). My fried chicken was good. Beautiful evening at dusk with the pines overhead by the lazy river. Do they get credit for that?Minuses: way too many to mention. However I will attempt: bad cold sausage gravy, cold polenta, undercooked parsnips, chipped decanter, late with our salads, 13-15 minutes between 5-6 visits, ran out of promised honey biscuits, and possibly a server not enjoying his job. Thats unfortunate. Will we be back? Me no, but K wants to come back for a lunch inside. (She really liked the outside atmosphere). Sooooo, Yes we will be back for one more try. Mothra says….So many inconsistencies. I just cannot recommend the Pine Tavern. 2.80 of 5.0
My fave!. Alright pine tavern is an oldie. The young crowd doesn’t go here. They are missing out! For good home cooking this is the place! My hubby and I walk here a few times a month for the fish, the fried chicken or the meat loaf amazing!!! So flavorful! The view on the deck is beautiful.
Mediocre. I have been to the Pine Tavern about 10 years ago with my husband and we decided to return to celebrate our son’s birthday, as a treat. Although the service was attentive, friendly and fast, it couldn’t disguise the fact that the food was over priced, over-seasoned and limiting in choices. Although the menu was pleasant, the fact that the choices are so few didn’t make our mouths water. Food presentation was eye-pleasing, but we couldn’t get past the high salt content taste in our main course. Libations was the only saving grace this visit. We won’t be visiting again to celebrate special occasions with family or friends.
