Outstanding. First, I want to clarify that Bend has a Phoenix Inn, with a cafe (downtown), which is not the Phoenix Restaurant (east side, where the second Kayo’s used to be). This is a review of lunch at the Phoenix Restaurant. We had lunch here about a year ago, and although the food was great, our experience was ruined by several out of control toddlers (nothing like having a well-slobbered binky land in your food). This time we realized we could sit in the bar area, with no minors allowed. Problem solved. We both had the special (surf n turf with fries and vegetables), plus creme brulee for dessert. I had a margarita (with a choice of high-shelf tequila) and my husband had a strawberry daquiri. Both were excellent, although the margarita was made from margarita mix rather than straight lime juice. The drink prices were extremely reasonable, especially for Cuervo. The turf part of the meal was a bit small, but everything was great: the 6 skewered shrimp/prawns were perfectly done, my steak was rare and my husband’s steak was medium rare: both were very tender. The fries were crispy (the waiter warned me they have a dusting of cornstarch, since I had asked about gluten-free). The veggies were al dente with a light but tasty butter sauce. The creme brulee comes in a flat oval ramekin which means lots of the brulee part; the creme part was perfect: thicker than a sauce but not as firm as a custard. I’d go back just for the creme brulee. The menu prices were extremely varied; we had a buy one entree get one half price coupon, which was great since the surf n turf special was at the upper end of their entree prices; we could have had a quite inexpensive lunch if that had been our goal. I thought the total cost of our meal was very reasonable for the quality. The wait staff was friendly, our drinks came immediately, and the rest of the meal came before we had finished our drinks. The time frame was typical of a restaurant, rather than a fast-food place. Personally, I wish the sound on the television with the Stanley Cup playoff game had been on, rather than the sound on the television showing some stupid golf game, but I can’t have everything.Truly a memorable restaurant experience!
NOT CLOSED!!!!!!. I called and yes they are open for business! We liked there food 9/15/11
Pleasantly Surprised. This place gets good write ups, but I just blew them off – I’m not going to believe that a hotel/motel has a restaurant that’s really worth trying. We went last night for Happy Hour and it was great. I had the lemon/pomegranate drop and it was really good. Their happy hour menu is pretty extensive. I had the chicken fingers and sweet potato fries – all good in my book.
Have eaten in Pheonix on 3 occasions, while service was a touch slow the first two times it was appalling on the third. Never have I been made to feel so unwelcome by an entire staff, manager included, simply because they received a complaint about the dish my husband had ordered. If you like paying high prices for substandard service and nothing really special food then this is your kind of restaurant.
Normal pub food, nothing special
One of the best happy hours in Bend. The bar is very large with lots of seating options.
