Small Town Charm. Sometimes it’s worth the drive for these out of the way cafes. Sunday was no exception. Tucked away on Hwy 34 between Philomath & Waldport you’ll find Deb’s Cafe in Alsea. A small roadside hidden gem on you way to (or from) the coast! It’s almost like walking into a cozy log cabin with the smell of bacon cooking. We seated ourselves and the waitress had menus and coffee to us in no time. She explained the special scamble as sausage, bacon, potatoes, bell peppers and onions covered in country gravy. I was sold on that. I love a good scamble. I only wish I had asked for cheese with it. My friend ordered a 6 piece plate of french toast with a side of bacon. He enjoyed the french toast but he really like the bacon. Our coffee was fresh and hot but not the best I’ve had. It’s a friendly place and the staff throws banter back and forth. Deb was in the kitchen cooking the meals and the locals were pretty casual about walking back and talking to her. It seemes most the folks knew each other but they didn’t make us feel out of place. It’s clean and well kept. The waitress kept our coffee topped off. The food was served piping hot and it was delicious. While not off the scales amazing it’s definitely a great stop. I’d happily stop here again!
