This is probably one of the worst restaurants. The service is the fill it up type. Basically the waitress appears to fill your drink. The food was brought out way too fast. We ordered a calamari appetizer which was basically just the breading with bits of calamari somewhere in the fried mess. The appetizer and salad and soup came out at the same time. The soup was supposed to be a crab chowder. Again the ratios were off and the crab was almost non existent. The salad was fine. All of sudden then our entrees were brought out and we were just finishing the other course. The entrees were at best mediocre. My salmon, with carrots, farrow and nuts was cooked fine. My girlfriends squash linguine was waytoo creamy, again the ratios were off. In conclusion: over priced, bad service, mediocre food.
Bad Protocol. I was visiting Eugene from Sonoma, CA and I chose Sweetwaters on the River based on the reviews listed below….made a reservation looking for a nice dinner and great atmosphere…..When we arrived on March 3rd, there was a typed note saying the restaurant was closed and everyone was being seated in the bar….after a long travel day, I really didn’t want to be searching around in the dark in an unfamiliar area….Even though the food was good (somewhat limited bar menu) it was ANNOYING that that was not mentioned earlier when I made the reservation.
Sweetwaters sets tone for perfect romantic getaway!. A recent romantic getaway weekend at the Valley River Inn,which in itself was exquisite, was made unforgettable by possibly the finest dining experience of our lives. The superb staffs performance, skillfully directed by Chris, not only exceeded our expectations but truly made us feel like we were special friends. They were not just going through the motions of doing their job but seemed genuinely dedicated to making our meal unforgettable. My wife had made arrangements for some special touches for my birthday (lobster tail with prime rib) which were gladly accommodated and perfectly prepared. Our Sweetwaters experience set the tone for what will live forever in my memory as one of the best times of our ongoing love story.
The Bar. A beautiful setting. It is elevated, so you can see the river while sitting at the bar. Lovely Chris who served us from the lounge menu could make any cocktail to perfection. The Potted Crab Fondue was excellent and the Margarita Pizza was just right.
Fantastic!. Ok so some of the decor might be a little dated, but when it comes down to it this place is excellent! Lunch time at Sweetwaters is great, I had the fish of the day a True Cod special and I just have to say it was a true treat! Add to it that the server was great, the view, and the manager came by and checked in with the tables, this truly was a great lunch and a great boost to my day. I think if you haven’t been there recently you should go and treat yourself!
One of Eugene’s Finest Restaurants. Sweetwaters is one of those places you can go to where everything on the menu is good. About the only other restaurant I could say that about in Eugene was the now-defunct Chanterelle.
