I was pleasantly surprised with this cute place over in one of the boroughs of Portland. I have passed this place a few times won’t being on the bus, and finally had a chance to try it out. I am on a hunt to find the best biscuits and gravy in Portland, after moving here from the south, and missing my roots. This place probably got as close as possible to real biscuits and gravy, except for one hold up. For some reason all the biscuits and gravy of Portland come out with a yellow or orange color to them. Instead of it being the white sausage gravy. The Taste was there though, and I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a huge portion that you can share between two people. We did not order our own plates, and shared. Our bill ended up being $10, the same exact price as if you were going to go to McDonald’s! That might actually have been even cheaper. But this place on your list of eateries in the near future.
We tried Gravy for brunch @10:00 am on Wednesday. There were two of us. We put our name on the list and had about a ten minute wait. The space has a high ceiling and several sky-lights. It’s open and pretty loud with a casual, hipster vibe.Once seated our waiter arrived promptly and took our order. He was friendly and good about refills. I ordered the biscuits with sausage gravy and my partner had the smoked salmon w/poached eggs. The biscuits were buttery, large and relatively flaky. The gravy was smooth and creamy w/chunks of sausage. However, there wasn’t much flavor to the gravy. The sausage could have used some spices. I ended up adding quite a bit of black pepper trying to give it a little zing. The smoked salmon hash had excellent flavor. The salmon was shredded and mixed w/shredded potatoes and peppers. Quite tasty and a lot of it. It was served with a good sized bowl of cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes, and pineapple. All were sweet and fresh. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked. I thought the service, portion sizes, and value were all very good. I was disappointed by the blandness of the gravy. If you can get in quickly it’s worth it, but I don’t think it’s worth the long wait it sounds like a lot of people experience.
Food is amazing Im definitely coming back for seconds wasnt expecting the portion sizes I couldnt finish it all and from what it seems thats the norm here worth every penny
