We thought it was horrible! Place smelled bad when we walked in & there was only one other table of 2 eating around 6:30pm on a Thursday. I ordered Tom Yum soup with shrimp. My soup was lukewarm, the mushrooms were thrown in 2 seconds before & were fresh, raw & cold. The soup had tons of fish sauce as the smell was extremely strong. It was very bland with no spice but I could taste sugar. I have had Tom Yum all over the country and this was the worst I have ever had!My husband ordered a shrimp spring roll which was also mediocre. The peanut sauce was flat & tasteless. We were so disappointed we leftIt is nowhere close to the taste & quality of Pok Pok! That’s a joke to even compare them

Probably will close, and that’s a shame. There’s nothing wrong with Kala, in fact, there’s a lot that’s right. The food itself is very good. The kow soi guy is excellent, even if it’s not to Pok Pok’s atmospheric standards. Their pad ki mao is some of the best around. The problem is the location is terrible, and their off-white paint-job doesn’t help them stand out. Also, they’re not doing lunch, though that’s probably a good decision in their location. The interior is tasteful but boring; nothing memorable. Their service was great but there were only 2 other tables to be covered. And, there were no draft beers, only bottles. This shouldn’t be a huge negative since Thai beer is terrible, but in Portland, this matters. If you’re not going to do drafts at least carry a few more beers than just Ninkasi Total Domination. Not a bad beer but it reinforces you’re not trying too hard.
