Sushi is great, space is wonderful, everyone who works there has been fantastic… Ramen is pretty meh, as is the karaage. The ramen was pretty lackluster in flavor depth and noodles were ho-hum. Oh and the egg was waaaaaay overcooked. 🙁 The karaage wasn’t crisp almost at all. Kind of a weird soft fish-n-chips type breading. I remembered the ramen here being fantastic, so maybe just an off night? Not sure if we’ll be back to test out the theory…
Mirakutei is perfect for days when you feel like escaping the Portland rain and slurping up a warm bowl of ramen. It’s my favorite spot to go if I’m dining solo.Order like a local: Tonkotsu ramen with an extra poached egg. paperairplaneblog.com
Flavorful Ramen!. What a great place to find near downtown Portland! Great and fresh ramen!
Over priced. Expensive for mediocre not even fresh fish.Black cod, which is one of my favorite fishes, was burnt and not fresh, dumplings were small, limp, and oily. Green dragon roll was good and expensive. Ginger brle was doll size portion.
Best Sashimi Salmon Ever!!. I love sashimi and the occasional roll, but never raw salmon. Smoked salmon, yes!! Salmon cooked rare, yes!! I’ve just never liked it raw, but tonight was different. My husband convinced me to let the chef pick our sashimi selections this evening, an attempt to get me to try something different than my standard favorite, hamachi. As expected the hamachi was heavenly, butter in my mouth. Also, as expected, one of the chef’s selections was salmon, but not just salmon. It was roll slightly, cradling a few thin slices of cucumber. I thought about unrolling it. After all I’d ordered SASHIMI, but decided instead to give the chef his due and try it as served. WOW!!! Talk about a taste sensation, like when you find that perfect combo of sweet and spicy, but this was more than the perfect combo of taste. It was also the perfect combo of texture. Happy are we, the blessed foodies of inner SE Portland.
Great place if you have a deep pocket and no appetite. Tiny portions, for unreasonable prices. Tasty, I must admit, but servings are snack sized.
Woke up from a power knap with a strong appetite. Usually when I go to a restaurant hungry everything tastes phenomenal. Well everything aside from the original ramen I had was pretty bad. Even the bamboo shoots in the ramen had a bad after taste. The wagyu (defrosted in microwave LOL) was not tender with a burnt touch when asked for medium. Black cod was fishy and did not taste fresh. Hamachi sashimi tastes fishy as well. So what this all tells me is that they did not serve me the freshest possible pieces even though I gave the workers a tip that would say otherwise. But the quality was not in the servers control. The cooks maybe do not deserve the tip.
