Are you kidding?. Loved this place…back in the day. Now? Not so much. Went with another couple. They get their meals, the manager/waiter tells us they’re out of what we ordered. Really? You’re telling us this now? The food wasn’t what we wanted, wasn’t good. Don’t even look at the garlic bread. What else? How about double charging for the half carafe of wine? Sooooo disappointing. Never again.

I love this place!!!! My family has enjoyed Giovanni’s pizza for as long as I can remember.
Best traditional Italian in the Portland area!!! Meatball appetizer was on point. Spaghetti Carbanara was sooo authentic and the fettuccini with shrimps was delicious! And can I say the house wines were very smooth. The best part was the excellent customer service, my husband and I had never been to this restaurant and the server was very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and very accommodating. We will be back!!
The food was great! Very authentic. The ravioli was simple but good and the canelloni was the best I’d ever had. I would order it every time! The salad dressing was homemade and delicious! We did take out, but I would eat there weekly if I could.
Maybe I’m taking my culinary training to far, but Giovanni’s is pretyy bad. You can tell they just went down the street to Safeway and bought a jar of Raging and some frozen ravioli and put it on my plate. Why would I pay $27.70 for frozen gnocchi and ravioli. It was extremely disappointing. Next time I want Italian food, I’ll just make it myself or go to Ernesto’s down the street.
Good pizza, terrible customer service. My family has been going to Giovanni’s once a month for about 30 years. Their pizzas have a thick crust with plenty of toppings. The Giovanni’s Special is a meat lover’s delight, their Giovanni’s salad is great with a light italian style vinegar and oil and they serve it family style. The waitstaff has always been attentive in the past, but lately they seem to have hired a bunch of teen girls who would rather stand around behind the counter and chat with each other. It’s a good place to gather with large groups and small children, only if you get seated in the back room. Therein lies my major complaint. We always call to make a reservation as there are usually between 10 and 14 of us. The last 2 times they’ve basically said we were lying and they had no reservation for us (I called myself so I know we did) or oops, they forgot the back room was already completely booked (it seats like 60) and instead they crammed us in to a table in the main dining room. Not acceptable. During the hour we were there, the back room was completely empty. Sad. This has been our family gathering place for years, no cooking required and no dishes to do, but I think it’s time to start a new tradition. I know ownership has changed over that time, but what a poor way to treat your frequent customers. If you’re a couple or party of 4 you may be fine. Big groups be sure you make a reservation and get the name of the person you talk to. Then at least they can assign blame when they’ve screwed up your reservation.
