Had a great first meal. Two of us had the tabletop BBQ and the seafood pancake. Other two had the yellow curry and bin bim bop. Service was excellent and food was great. We will be back to try other dishes. We were there at 530pm and it was busy but no wait. Can see how it could get. Rowdies though.
Nak Won is a great value. My family of four feasted on banchan, steamed pot stickers (jjin mandu), kimchi jjigae, steamed rice, lettuce chards and ssamjang, and a platter of meat pork belly (samgyeopsal), beef (bulgogi), and beef franken ribs (galbi). We ate so much we chose to skip dinner altogether. All for around $60.Rule #1 Arrive early. The place is popular and, predictably, packed. Theres a three-hour window for lunch (11:30-2:30) and a three-and-a-half hour window for dinner (5:00-8:30), except for Fridays and Saturdays, when the restaurant closes at 8 p.m. Wander in during the last half hour at your own risk. In that last half hour, the kitchen is backed up with orders and the menu options narrow. Dont blame the restaurant. Blame yourself for arriving late.Rule #2 Play the field. Explore the menu and order a dish or two outside your comfort zone. You will be rewarded. Ordered beef bulgogi last time? Try the soondubu jjigae, a soft tofu soup with meat and vegetables served boiling hot. Our family eyed dishes delivered to surrounding tables and made notes for our next visit.Rule #3 Bring friends. Korean BBQ and comfort food play well to a communal table and Nak Wons atmosphere is no exception. Youll quickly find theres plenty to share with your guests, whether you ladle soup, slide along small bowls of banchan, or serve sizzling hot meat from your table grill.Quibble #1 The steamed pot stickers was the only dish to disappoint. I knew I should have ordered a green onion pancake. Though, I recovered when I ordered a large bottle of Hite beer to share with my wife as we deliriously chewed on BBQ meats.Quibble #2 Banchan is free and refillable, although I didnt care for either the spicy bean sprouts or the fish cake. The potato salad is authentic to Asian cultures (I ate a similar recipe in Japan), but might come across as relatively flavorless to palates tuned to spicier variations.Quibble #3 Finally, some more adventurous Korean BBQ meat choices arent on the menu but those listed at Nak Won are solid.
I went with my husband to Nak Won on June 10, 2015. The moment I sat down on a chair, I didn’t know it was a broken one. The seat which was supported by a metal frame was detached from a front leg of it. So when I tried to pull it closer to the table, one of my fingers got caught in the gap between the seat and the leg, and was badly bruised and hurt. At first, I thought it was okay, but on second thought, my husband and I believed we should let the person-in-charge know so that the same problem would not happen to the other customers. So we told the waiter there (there was only one, and we believe he was also the owner of the restaurant) what had happened. However, instead of investigating or admitting the problem that there was a dangerous broken chair, he defensively and repeatedly said I had done it to myself, and then turned away. To begin with, our intent was not to complain about him or the restaurant even though we had every right to , but to let him be aware of the problem, then my husband tried to reason with him again, but he became more hostile, said he didn’t want to talk about it and even asked us to leave rudely. What an irresponsible attitude he had to solve the problem! How disrespectful and ill-mannered he was toward his customers! It was a totally awful experience for us!
Beef Bibimbop. Beef bibimbop and side dishes
Love their banchan. Went here for lunch today, and what really impressed me were their side dishes! I really like the radish kimchi and the bean sprouts in particular. Sooo good. I also tried their gam ja tang. It was good, but I much prefer the one at JCD still! Nevertheless, I will be coming back to check out the rest of their menu!
Some reviewers need to open their minds. It’s a small, busy place with just a few on staff. The focus is the food which the turn out to order and so far we have not been disappointed. Spicy octopus, bulgogi, Korean curry, pancake, all fantastic. Services was great despite how busy it has been each time. Beware not to order too much as servings are large and they start you off with a series of kimchi, pickled items and small salads to share. If you go during busy hours expect service to be that of any busy restaurant. Affordable, fantastic food.
Had been told this was a good korean spot. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. All the food was completely bland even the spicy food. Mexicans were cooking, not that I care, but that wasn’t korean food I was served there. My wife is Korean and this is a resturant pick she won’t let me live down
