I should point out that this review has been written only taking into account the dining aspect of The Horsehead.Star 1 – Was the service good?At it’s core, The Horsehead is a bar, so you shouldn’t expect to be waited on. Simply walk up to the bar, place your order and pay, and wait for the buzzer to go off. While the employees are friendly and give off a fresh and unique Eugene vibe, my burger took more than 30 minutes to be served, which really is unacceptable. No Star Granted.Star 2 – How were the portions relative to the cost? For a little under $10, I was very much expecting some generous portions. Unfortunately, my jerk burger was stuffed with mostly lettuce and my serving of homemade fries was lacking to say the least. At the end of the meal I found myself disappointed in the quantity of food. No Star Granted.Stars 3/4 – Did the food taste good? While my jerk burger was really quite poor (overcooked and slightly burned), my meal at The Horsehead was single-handedly saved by the wonderful homemade fries and their spicy mustard sauce. Both really are a must-try. Single Star Granted.Star 5 – Would you eat it every day if you could?I’m actually a bit ashamed that I was only able to come to The Horsehead for a meal, because it really does look like a great atmosphere for a drink, and the people watching alone makes the trip worth it. That having been said, the food and timeliness factor at The Horsehead was disappointing, and I would recommend looking elsewhere even for a late-night bite. No Star Granted.

They discriminate against the handicapped.. I will never come to this establishment again they are discriminatory against the disabled and kicked out my friend because he is in a wheel chair AFTER we had ordered our food. my friend and I were perfectly sober and there was no reason given.

Terrible people working there.. Used to like going to this bar. Last night however was a completely different story. I’m hard of hearing, I’ve got what’s called a cookie bite hearing loss (the Audiogram looks like there’s a bite out of the line graph) and its specifically in the speech range, so not only is it hard for me to have good balance, it’s really difficult for me to hear myself so I shout a lot especially when there’s loud music. We got there around 9:30/10pm after we had gone bowling. I walked in and went straight for the bathroom, after coming out of the bathroom, my friend got me a glass of water and we went to go play pool. I never ever ordered a drink from horsehead last night. So we’re playing pool (remember balance problems+trying to do trick shots) I see my boyfriend get a drink. When he came back I had two (2) sips, the bartender came over told the bouncer to kick me out because I was drunk. I hadn’t been drinking, I’m 26, and I’m extremely livid with this place and their lack of ability to tell the difference between a stumbling drunk and a deaf person.

Old Time Bar Goer. It wasnt the fact that the kitchen staff has known meth heads for me.Nor was it the rude staff that is consistently hired (ironically by the same owner that hires good staff at Jamesons). It wasn’t being over charged on multiple occasions, once causing my card to decline. It wasn’t the fact that I’d spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at the bar yet the bouncers, who are extremely impolite, in need of a bath, and altogether ignorant, still don’t remember my face. Its the fact that they kicked me out for quietly socializing at a table with friends. No cause. I hadn’t even been to the bar the night in question nor talked to anyone outside of my immediate friend circle. The overweight bouncer with a beard he thought was cool because local celeb Josh had one and so conformed to the new paradigm for overweight men in search of their own masculinity took it upon himself to kick me out. I wasn’t drunk at all and was visibly sober to everyone at the scene. If you need any more indicators as to who this bouncer was, its the one with very few teeth to call his own. This isn’t a dig at him, just so that any owners who read this post can identify the man who clearly had it out for me for no good reason. After spending 40 dollars on drinks for friends – an act of patronage to keep the owners pockets from emptying – I was not given a chance to return. So if you are the fat toothless hat wearing bearded Hodor looking dude, you deserve to be fired. When you read this, you’ll know who to thank. Enjoy your future in manual labor.

What a find? My wife and I found this eclectic bar while staying in Eugene for a night. We had the gumbo with cornbread, bacon cheeseburger with fries and an order of fried okra and mushrooms. Yum! I grew up and the south and this was as close to Cajun as I’ve seen in awhile.

Good drunken bar food. If that’s what you’re after, it’s perfect!

Sooooo delicious!. We decided to have a late night dinner here, and oh my god I’m glad we did… I had a burger with bacon and Swiss….it was amazing! I also had collared greens which I’d never tried before and I already want to go back for more!! Interesting crowd of people, but everyone was just hanging out and enjoying themselves, laid back. The bartenders were very attentive and fast too. However, we were there on a weeknight, so the weekend is probably a little crowded. I’ll totally go back, and next time I’m having the gator burger.
