Never again……… I was very embarrassed to hold my birthday party at Mazzi’s. My wife had anticipated a party of 25 and only 12 attended due to the holidays. They told us they sent a server home since the patronage was smaller than expected. . Evidently large parties are limited in the menu selection. I took a vote and everyone agreed that if we would be limited to the menu given upon arrival we would pay for drinks and head to Olive Garden. The manager was kind enough to let us select from the regular menu so we ordered. The service was very poor and we ended up waiting at the front counter to pay our checks. The insult came when they told us that the 18% gratuity was not optional. In my business the gratuity is for the good service. I instructed my wife to give a 12% tip since the service was so poor. When she came out to the car, she informed me she was required to pay the entire 18%. In addition 4 guests had paid cash and left (upset at the poor service) and they required her to pay the portion of their gratuity they left short. I recommend you think twice before booking a reservation with numerous people. In conclusion, Olive Garden puts this restaurant to shame for price and service. P.S. The meatballs were delicious.

Disappointed…… We have had consistently good service, the food is good, not great, the wine list is respectable and the warm rolls and creamy pesto dressing are wonderful! Last evening, however, a different story. We got there about five minutes before opening and the door was open, so we entered. A bald-headed man called to us from behind the bar and instead of a cordial greeting he said, ‘we open at 5:00. You’re early. Sit down (in the lobby) and we’ll let you know when we’re ready for you.’ Hmm. Then a tall, blonde female came up and essentially said the same thing. We don’t mind waiting, really, but the greetings left much to be desired. Our waitress was wonderful and the service was good. I have arthritic knees and am forced to walk slowly and as I walked to the bathroom, the tall blonde met me and did not stand aside, rather nearly walked into me and was clearly impatient with my slowness. Simultaneously, the bus/water boy, following right behind her, did the identical thing. Let me remind you that the customers are the profit, the wait staff are the overhead

There’s much better in town…. Mazzi’s is an appealing old style family italian restaurant. The few times we’ve ventured down to the south Eugene eatery, it has always been crowded. This brings me to my first complaint which is the long wait getting seated; not their fault of course, but I hoped for a cold drink on a hot summers night but there were no offers of a beverage to the waiting guests. We were eventually seated outside and were quickly helped by friendly staff. My appetizer salad was on the small side (for the $7 price) which was made up for by the tasty (and filling) bread. Unfortunately the fusilli in my vegetarian pasta were overcooked (mushy) and the grilled summer squash & zucchini a little under cooked (cool and crunchy). My wife’s pizza was the real reason for the two star rating. I like my pizza, traditional or otherwise, but the sauce was Chef Boyardee-ish, the dough and cheese undercooked and the pepperoni didn’t have any zest or flavor. I tried to cover up the pizza’s shortcomings with a heavy coat of parmesan cheese, but the cheese inside the shaker was in one pick lump and wouldn’t come out. To top of the dining experience, Mazzi’s refused to honor my Groupon and the manager actually tried to argue with me even when I pointed out the fine print on the voucher didn’t make mention of how many entrees needed to be ordered. Two thumb’s down for Mazzi’s 🙁

Mediocre at best. The waiter we had was not a people person. Saw him the minimal amount of time. No smile, no personality, no….nothing. Dylan W. please make you guest feel welcomed, not like we are an issue for you. You were by far the worst waiter I’ve ever had! We waited 30+ minutes before Dylan even came to our table to take our drink order….

Charming little building. Unfortunately the food is mediocre at best and the service is absolutely terrible. Waited 30 minutes after being seated just to have our drink order taken…
