Decent food but not for the price. Nothing was exceptional. Calamari was quite salty, dipper for the bread had no flavor and just tasted like oil, prime rib had no flavor, and the chicken piccata had an overly strong taste of capers.
New owners have ruined a once iconic restaurant with fabulous food, friendly, efficient wait staff, unbelievably gracious manager (Kim Godfrey) & lovely, old, comfortable ambiance!Give me back the cashew chicken salad, one of a kind server (Flint) & the big round table in the back car & my friends & I MIGHT come back for our monthly old girlfriends lunch.Bring back the wing chairs in the lobby bar & get rid of the big screens that ruined the vintage beautiful carved wood back bar and get rid of the preponderance of not very exciting NEW Italian dishes on the menu & bring back a best-in-town prime rib, top notch perfectly grilled tender steak, all the lovely bread & herb butter one can eat, huge hot fudge sundaes, bourbon pecan pie, perfect dirty martinis, medium priced Oregon wines, and the place might bring the old customers back & charm the new customers into becoming regulars.Until then: I am going to Marche!
Better dining experience than food. The food was good but a bit of a let down, I had the Halibut special. Nice wine list, very nice bar. The ambience of the place is really unique and move but I personally thought the food, while good, was unremarkable. For the price, I’d expect FAR better.
Rude and Insensitive. I informed my server that I was going to the rest room. Five minutes later I returned to my table and all the dishes were cleared, my coat missing and 2 bus boys standing at the table. Where were my leftovers, where was my coat, where was my check and where was my server????? The ‘Dine and Dash’ boys told me my coat was hanging on the coat rack at the front entrance. They didn’t offer to retrieve it for me. I got my coat and found my server which I followed back to my table. I paid in cash plus left a very good tip. I wasn’t finished. I wanted coffee and dessert which my server never offer to me. I wanted my leftover prime rib to give to my dog. I walked over to the HILTON for coffee and dessert. Never again. I shared this horrible dining experience with everyone at the conference I was attending in Eugene. I went to dinner the next 2 nights to Marche and Steelhead. Service there was fabulous.
Well, I think they’re trying. I think this restaurant needs to figure out what it is. I believe they want to be a higher end eatery with an upscale bar section but unfortunately they are missing the mark. Their menu us ordinary, and their food, while cooked well, is not very inspiring. The service is also good but not what you would expect from a premium restaurant. I have to say at the price point that they have placed their meals, the food does not reach that spot. I purchased their scallop dish. It was small, which is not really a problem, and the scallops were cooked well. The problem, as so often with line cooks vs. a well trained chef, was the seasoning. They were too salty and lacked any other flavor profile. Others at our table got their NY Steak. Again cooked well but missing on the flavor. These are subtle things but they are important in the grand scheme of things. I will say, however, that the Manhattan they made for us was very good. Perhaps next time I will just go for cocktails.
Family Dinner. Our family had a wonderful dining experience at the Oregon Electric Station. We reserved a dining car toward the back of the restaurant for twenty, four of which were children. It was an ideal setting as the children where able to move around without disturbing other diners. Our meals from appetizers to desserts were delicious. From the moment we walked in the door service was excellent. Our service team was beyond reproach as they promptly took care of our every need from the moment we walked into the dining car until the moment left. Kudos to them as it was a bit hectic at times but they never skipped a bit in providing outstanding service to our party. It was good to be able to take young children into a lovely restaurant and not worry about them fidgeting or being too loud and disturbing other dinner guests. OES welcomes the young with crayons & coloring paper, our servers placed the children’s orders first so they were enjoying their dinners while the adults enjoyed appetizers & drinks. After dinner, a few adults retreated into the quiet of the bar area for a night cap – we sat in the small room off the lounge with a lovely fireplace. It was a great way to end our evening. The one suggestion I would make is to turn off the big screen t.v. in that room, especially as there were no sports games on and it did take away form the lovely ambiance of that space. I highly recommend the Oregon Electric Station, especially if you are looking for an upscale dining experience for a large family gathering.
