We waited over an hour for 3 plates of food, on a Saturday night when the place wasn’t full. People that ordered after us got their food ahead of us. I don’t know what the hang up was in the kitchen. When our food came, I have to admit I was disappointed. The rice was just white rice cooked in tomato sauce – very bland. The retried beans were mushy, under seasoned pintos. Mine were tepid – I had to request fresh, hot beans and rice to go with my enchiladas with barbacoa. My enchiladas were dry and buried under a heap of cold, damp shredded lettuce. The tostada and chicken chimichanga other people at our table ordered were ok, but nothing very special. I really wanted to like this place, but mediocre food, a very long wait and a noisy environment dominated by a big TV just wasn’t appealing. We won’t come back.
Yummy breakfast. I’m not sure what their hours are but we saw they was open at 10am and stopped by for breakfast…. The chilaquiles & huevos rancheros are both great. I love their chili relleno, the birria de chivo was the weakest dish we have tried and it was still quite good. If they get their beer and wine license I have the feeling I will be spending a great deal of time on their little patio out front.
The shrimp and fish tacos are DELICIOUS! (The tripa tacos are very good to if you like that type of food.) The best I’ve had since I was in Mexico a couple years ago. The salsa and guac were also really good. I love how they sell their beverages (including my favorite apple soda) in glass bottles too. I can’t personally vouch for the other menu items, but I will certainly be going back for those tacos!
Carne asada was great. Chicken chimi my wife had was unusual but good, and huge. Daughter liked the tacos. Wouldn’t recommend the fruit drink but everything else was worth coming back for.
Fantastic Authentic Tacos!. Lunch time found us in Eugene today. The promise of authentic Mexican food attracted us to this great place. It differs from the usual back-of-the-bodega set-up in that it is adjacent to and associated with, but not inside the store and Meat market. I had a fair idea of what to expect and ordered Tacos de; Lengua, Carnitas, Tripa and Pastor. My brother had their Barbacoa combination plate. It was all just great. The only thing that may have improved it a bit would be hecho a mano (made by hand) Tortillas. They have a bar set up with all kinds of condiments and Salsas. My Tacos came with the usual Cilantro, chopped Onion and Lime Wedges. The dcor is cheerful with red vinyl table covers. As is often the case in these places, the tables had been cleared, but not wiped down between customers. A fellow can only handle so much at one sitting, so I’ll have to save their Birria de Chivo Combo plate on my next visit!
