Good enough, fun place. Cannon’s is a tiny little shack with covered patio, with great music on weekend nights. Walk-up swindow service, picnic tables and BBQ smoke swirling all around. The ‘Q is pretty good, sandwiches are big, wet and messy – five napkin affairs.
Good Red Beans and Rice. Was sidetracked on my New Seasons shopping excursion by the the delicious smell of BBQ wafting across the parking lot. I wasn’t even hungry and had just bought chicken at New Seasons so I ordered a vegetarian bowl which included red beans and rice, collard greens, a piece of corn on the cob, and a piece of corn bread. I decided to write a review because I was very impressed with the red beans and rice. I am form Louisiana and Cannon’s red beans and rice had the authentic flavor that I so miss! The portions are small compared to typically oversized American portions, but at $6 I thought it was fair.
The best in town by a longshot. I’ve traveled to alot of places in the south and i have to say cannon’s is the most authentic bbq in town. once you’ve eaten at such a good place its easy to wonder how can they outdo themselves, but the service is pretty awesome also. in the summer the owner has come out and offered free watermelon slices to his customers, and its that kind of hospitality that keeps me coming back time and time again.
Ribs are smoked well…but the sauce…the salt and the sugar are trying to punch each other out on my tongue…let one win
Easy to Miss. Really enjoyed their food. They face NE 33rd and share parking with New Seasons Market. Glad I found them! Owners said they were across the street for 15 years and 10 years at their current spot. My GPS had their old location.
The BEST. I moved from Oregon in 1999. Since have lived in both NC and FL. Nobody can make barbecue even close to how well these people here do. His sauce needs to be bottled and sold. Currently trying to get them to ship some to me in Florida!
One of the reasons I move to NE PDX. Is because of Cannon’s. It’s THAT good! Meat falls off the bone, never dry or greasy. Great cornbread, and their banana cream & sweet potato pies are to die for! Very friendly, always a smile.
