Pretty good sushi at a reasonable price. Service was fast and and friendly! Kruse way roll is huge!
No Hiro sushi. I had fond memories of the old sushi bar but Umi now is just bad sushi bar: mushy rice, stale fish, sake tasted like old vinegar, udon has strong chlorine smell to it. It’s one of the worse on my list plus the price was high, we chose highlighted menu items with 30% off but when the bill came out they were full price. At this point we were too put off to argue and will never return there, worse yet it was our Valentine dinner on 02/14/12!
Food is ok but the owner is very unfriendly. My wife and I ordered a Groupon and wanted to try Umi Sushi. Umi Sushi has 30% off specials on their menu and we ordered some. There is no restriction on groupon or their menu that this 30% off doesn’t apply. We acknolodged the waitress that we were going to use Groupon and we clearly ordered the 30% off specials. No one tell us that they don’t honor the discount until we finished our meals. They charged me full price. We asked the owner why they don’t let us know while we ordered. He first said this is Groupon’s issue and then said we (my wife and I) don’t have common senses. He then specifically told me that we were not welcome and we were the first customers that complains while I noticed the customers next to our table also had the same confusion.
A main stop for me when in town for work. I love this place, I travel to Portland about 8 weeks out of the year for my job and while I first started going to Umi because it was close to the hotel I stay in I have gone back because of how good it is and the friendly staff.I’m not sure what people were saying about the staff not being very friendly, I always have a great time talking to the Sushi Chef Josh. The staff always remembers me when I come to town and are great people to talk to…most of the time they even remember what I order and what I want to drink. On a week long trip to the area it is not uncommon for me to visit Umi at least 2 sometimes 3 times while I’m in town.
We liked it. We used to come here when it was Hiro’s. We wanted sushi & since we live close, we decided to try it. We loved it! The Nigiri was standard fare, but two special rolls were wonderful; a Caterpillar roll, with Avocado, & Unagi (eel), and a special roll that Elias made for us that was spectacular. The bill with a beer was under $50. We are going back & soon.
It’s not a bad place for sushi but it’s not the best ever! What used to be here was hiro sushi and that was wayyy better than this place ever will be! I would rather go to kurata on 5th st. in downtown Lake Oswego than umi and the Sushi chefs are alot more interesting to talk to down at Kurata than umi but Kurata is alot smaller too! Pretty expensive too!
OK but not great. Umi Sushi is ok. The sushi is fresh and the chef is pretty skilled. They have a nice variety of interesting rolls. The problem is that the service is pretty indifferent. The sushi chefs are not very friendly and, in such a small place, the service is reasonable but not very efficient.Green tea comes in a cup with a teabag and no one bothers to refill things without asking. It isn’t a bad place but it isn’t anything special. It is in a convenient location and it isn’t as if there are many similar choices in the area.
