I ate here yesterday, having breakfast for lunch. Always a clean, friendly place to stop for breakfast or lunch. It’s a step back in time, nothing fancy, just good food with great service.
Nice little place. I don’t understand all the haters. It’s not the kind of hipster breakfast place Portland is known for, but for a restaurant that’s been there since the 40’s, you get decent food at reasonable prices. My server named Rose was a sweetheart and took great care of me. I had a huge omelet (she said two eggs, but seemed like more) with hash browns and toast for $6.50. It was almost enough for two people. They have great looking desserts and good coffee. I hope to come back here frequently. They also serve lunch.
First time there today, ordered the corned beef hash. Ew. It was a pile of mush, obviously not home-made, and most likely from a can. Hash browns were undercooked, and the eggs were covered in an oily ‘butter’ substitute. The best thing about the meal was the english muffin.
Great homestyle breakfasts. If you want a fancy breakfast and a scene, this is not the place for you. But if you’re looking for good, solid homestyle cooking in a setting reminiscent of a small-town cafe, this is your place. You can get a better breakfast, I suppose, but you can’t get Rose and her staff (who are a treat in and of themselves). And definitely try the shakes and malts!
Food was awful, overcooked steak and my biscuit tasted like raw onion 🙁
Delicious!! Stopped around noon-thirty an was hoping for breakfast, and I got it plus some!! For $9 I got 2 biscuits and gravy (loaded with sausage!) 3 eggs and 4 pieces of bacon! Hashbrowns came with the meal, but I got tomatoe slices instead!!
