Came in for breakfast and it was amazing! My wife and both really enjoyed our meals. Food was very tasty and perfectly prepared. Staff was polite and very professional. Looking forward to trying more on the menu. I am a huge waffle lover and I like you can choose half of two off the menu. We will be back for sure!
Mothra Says….. Bring Your Microscope. So K and are headed south to pick up some wineshipments and are looking for a new place to have a bite for breakfast. At the south end of Dundee is the Babica HenCaf. This is a modern and very nicerestaurant with a glass and 55 degree wine cellar in the middle of the restaurant. We were invited in and there were some rathernice wines from the Willamette, Columbia River Valley and Northern California. We were seated promptly and were greeted witha big smile form our server Erika. Sheasked for our drink order: A blackberrymimosa for K and a cup of black coffee for the Mothra. I will tell you that the customer service from allof the restaurant staff was very friendly and on point. Coffee and water was refilled about every 6-7minutes. K ordered the Lyonnais wafflewhich included black forest ham, one fried egg, arugula, topped with tarragonhollandaise. My fried chicken and waffle(one waffle cut in half) included a small ramekin of fruit and rum caramelwhipped butter. OK, get ready. Have youall been to a restaurant in Portland called the Screen Door? Well, if you have not, you have to. If you have, then you know that the ScreenDoor serves a waffle and fried chicken that may be the very best breakfast inthe greater Portland area: threeapproximate 6 ounce deep fried chicken breasts stacked and placed upon a largesweet potato light and fluffy waffle, with a carafe of maple syrup. All forabout $13.00 please see my review andphotos if you would like to view this amazing chicken and waffle dish. OK, so myexpectations are high and should I expect every other restaurant to have abeautiful dish such as the Screen Door? No, but how about at least a one piece 6-8 ounce deep fried chickenbreast on a waffle? This chicken atBabica Hen was 3 individual 1ounce pieces about the half size of a sausagelink. The chicken was microscopic. Three small coconut breaded pieces of chickenon one waffle cut in half with a rather tasty rum caramel whipped butter. No syrup. Crickets. Really loud crickets. K looked at me and said,; I am so sorry however, mine is great! She also said, I can see your review now. Mothras rule #17 is: never let your customer leavethe restaurant hungry. I was consideringwhere as I ate my breakfast where I could dine within 20 minutes of leaving thisrestaurant. I had a never ending cup of coffee and K hadblackberry mimosa that was about 3 to 4 ounces, a drink that was way toosmall. Lets give the customer a bigger drink. Is this the theme for this restaurant? Microscopic portions with some good flavor, atrather high end prices. Mothra asks themanagement to refer to Mothras rule #17.Again, did I say how good the customer service wasfor this visit to Babica Hen caf?Really good. Erica was there andchecking on us.even maybe too frequently, but that is better than theopposite. Everyone in the establishment waskind and friendly and that does go a long way, trust me. Breakfast with 18 percent tip, out the doorat $44.00. Will I be back? No, however if I hear that management has directedthe chefs to double the portions at the same price; I am there. Mothra says..2.95 of 5.0
Though I’ve had good meals in the past at Babica Hen Cafe, my last visit was a disappointment. First off if a restaurant advertizes Chicken and dumplings, then they should learn how to make dumplings. So my first complaint would be the dense, undercooked dumplings. Also, I ordered a biscuit with honey butter, which was obviously made from the biscuit scraps so completely overworked and dense instead of flakey and light. The honey butter was missing. We ordered a chopped salad to be split – the salad was good however it was delivered unsplit from the kitchen. I will try Babica again, I guess every restaurant can have a bad day…
