Pork Carnitas (weekends only). I do *not* understand all the hate on this place. I had friendly service, the chips and salsa were delicious (the chip lady brought me more salsa and I didn’t even have to ask), and the portion of food I received was enough for two people. The plates are over a foot in diameter. This is not hipster Mexican food. This is tex mex in the restaurant style I am used to having grown up in the South. They are a little pricier than most places like that, but they are also downtown and you absolutely get what you pay for, with huge portions. So come very hungry, plan to share the meal or take some home because it is a ton of food. I will definitely be back and this restaurant is a great addition to the neighborhood.
Awesome Food. I like this place. As a tourist this is something I want to look for. The food is truly mexican. I ordered the 3 tacos something or other, and it came with ?pork? inside, with guacamole, beans &cheese, and fried rice on the side. I just put the other stuff inside the tacos, and it tasted pretty darn good. The only complaint with this place is that the bathrooms are in the back in a not very well lit area.
Mexican Neighborhood Joint. Friendly service (Carlos the bartender), generous portions ( I made 5 huge carne asado tacos out of my plate) the requisite mexican beers and tequila. They use peanut oil to make their frijoles refritos (my preferred style) Folks who have traveled to Mexico will recognize the garish interior, mainstream food, and friendly people of a low key everyday sort of establishment.
Really disappointing fare for the price. My mole chicken was swimming and less tasty than the bland it-tastes-like-canned refried beans on the side.
I like the enchilada style burrito, sitting outside and watching the people walk by is always entertaining as well.
Run down interior and bland food. I love their chips and salsa and they have a great bar. So if you’re just looking for a margarita, it’s okay.
Avoid like the plague! The bland, tasteless food is almost as gross as the rundown and dirty interior. I wush I would have gone to the Taco Bell across the street. Gross.
