Disappointed. With such high reviews I thought this place would be a sure thing, but I got a bad first impression. Staff was freandly, Thai Tced Tea was good, place was clean, but my Pad Thai was inedible. There was no flavor, no spice, it was as if they gave me overcooked noodles and forgot to add anything to it. Honestly, I think it might have been a mistake and I might be willing to try again, but I don’t know. $11.75 for a drink and a meal I can’t muscle down is pretty frustrating.
This is one of the few Thai places that delivers to the Roseway neighborhood. We usually get Sweet Thai Basil, as we use to live in NW and moved to the East side recently and we were very familiar with the quality there. So when we realized that the location on the East side delivered to our house we were stoked! However, it seemed frequently that they quoted extra long delivery times ( like 2 hours??!) and once even said they were too busy to deliver at all.So….we found Full Moon Thai.It is just as good, if not slightly better and a few bucks cheaper. Drunken noodles are my fav, the mango sticky rice is to die for!! Give them a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Outstanding!. With all of the Thai restaurants in Portland, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by a sometimes delicious and sometimes lackluster selection. Full Moon Thai, conveniently situated just a few blocks from me, is as good, if not better, than any Thai restaurant in this city. Cheap, large portions, delicious, and not greasy. Recommended to everyone.
Outstanding, Going Back Again Today!. Finally, a destination Thai restaurant on NE Broadway! We had the green curry dumplings (great), the Pad Thai (easily the best I’ve had in NE, very few Portland spots can top it), and the green chicken curry. The green curry has always been the measure of a Thai kitchen for me, and this one did not disappoint. It was insanely flavorful, just spicy enough, and the eggplant was rich and perfectly cooked. Even the rice was flawless. The only other green curry that I’ve had in the last 5 years that can top it is at Thai Peacock, and those guys have been the busiest That place in Downtown for what, 15 years?Whomever is cooking that food in the back of Full Moon Thai is clearly VERY highly skilled. Go to this restaurant without delay! It doesn’t matter what you order, the chef will make it amazing!
Great Thai. Recently a good friend hosted an engagement dinner for my daughter. The food was catered by Full Moon Thai. There was an wide variety of dishes and each was excellent. I found the curry to be mouthwatering to say the least. There was a peanut chicken dish that received rave reviews from the guests, and there were two fish dishes that I, as not a fish person, found really surprising. I would order either fish dish and be quite happy. Each dish was fresh and well presented. The guests returned numerous times to refill their plates. The food was far superior to other Thai food I had eaten in the past. I would recommend the catering service and can only assume the restaurant is excellent also. I am aware this restaurant just opened recently, so can only imagine how great it will be as time passes and the owners fine-tune everything. I would recommend the catering and the restaurant without hesitation. I see another review from when, I am guessing, the restaurant first opened. I hope this person goes back and finds the food is as good as what I experience. Good food is such a treat in one’s life..
Growing Pains. Had lunch with my wife here the other day. It always bums me out when you go into a newly opened restaurant and the owner is super friendly and is totally amped about their new enterprise, but then fails to deliver the goods in way of the food on your plate. OK, it wasnt a total letdown, but it wasnt exactly a smashing success either. Its like this: after ordering he brings us some Soup and explains that he is going to do a different soup every day, to keep things fresh. A good idea. The soup that day was Tom Yum, and after he leaves us to it we dig in, and…. find that its barely lukewarm. Like, a hair above room temperature. A poor way to start things off. Thai Ice Teas come, and happily, those are a success. My Mussaman Curry looks the part and my requested spice level of Extra Hot has been respected, which is a nice change for once. Unfortunately the Potatoes and Carrots are slightly undercooked and I was barely able to split them with my fork: they should be close to falling apart when done right. Also, there were WAY too many Onions in it. I know they are a cheap vegetable and that owners like to use them as filler (just as Mexican places overload burritos with beans for the same reason) but this Curry was half Onions. Decent amount of Chicken, nice flavor and heat, but their rendition of this dish definitely needs some work.We have changed my wifes name to Garlic and Pepper, because that seems to be the only thing she orders anymore when we go out for Thai. In this area she is somewhat of an expert by experience. This being said, she found it a little odd that these guys use whole peppercorns in the dish. She has never had it that way before and found biting into them somewhat unpleasant. Otherwise she was happy with it.Yes, the lunch specials are certainly priced nice, the warm tapioca he brought to us at the tail end of our meal was an unexpected treat, but there are definitely some issues to still be worked out in the kitchen. Yet, I would still give them another run somewhere down the line because the owner really seems to care. That being said, I hope he sees this review. I didnt have the heart to tell him these things when we there because he seemed so happy, but he did encourage us to give him feedback. So here it is.Grade: Undecided. (I didnt even vote Like It or Dont Like It, as I want to give them another chance before making that call) drexlermcstyles.tumblr.com
