The Oregonian food editors love this place and so do I. Most authentic Mexican food in town. They have expanded recently into the main part of the store and added a salsa bar. The menu is a lot more user friendly now as well. I always get the Carnitas tacos that are dripping in lard and served in two fresh made tortillas with picked cactus. Parking lot out front.
I have enjoyed Mexican food all over the US, and from my experience, this place is the benchmark for Mexican food in the US. If you order a carnitas burrito with frijoles negros, you will not be disappointed.

Tummy alegria, at this Tortilleria!. Its easy to shuck off this local community supermarket as a place to shop for Mexican and Latin American victuals alone but walk to the back and youre pulled into another world of home-made style foods, counters packed with ready-to-eats, views of delectable dishes and aromas freshly made that are simply out of this world! The De Leons dont care much about being fancy, as their rickety tables and chairs with very well used table cloths show their emphasis is on really, really good authentic Mexican eats that their customers can enjoy, insuring their return! This establishment does not have a menu to boast, it is simply walking up to the meat/food counter and gazing and smelling the offerings. You can eat in, or take out, it dont matter its gonna be good no matter. Whether fresh, fried, baked, boiled or broiled, its here to see and smell. From empanadas, chicharron, tamales to beans, poblanos, stuffed peppers, seasonings, salsas, rice and other staples and dishes, this is a place everyone who enjoys extremely good Mexican and is in Portland, whether visiting or residing, should stop in and try. I am certain your first visit will not be your last.
Awesome deli.. Today I had pupusas de queso con curtido. Awesome flavors! Watched them making the corn dough from scratch. This is food made with love!
Feel adventurous? This place will fill the void. Bought the carnitas especial – 1# carnitas, fresh tortillas, salsa; a huge chile relleno and a taco especial. Mmm. My family of 4 were quite content. Under $20!
