Mediocre Food and Bad Customer Service. Certainly won’t be back here. You’d think that a little place like this would have some kind of distinct flavor, but the food is un-nuanced and bland; I am not certain, but I think their chef graduated from 7th grade home economics and stopped there. The help got my food and drink order wrong. Coffee is extremely bad and the portions were abysmal (in an unethical way). Go to Salem if you want to eat at the airport.
At Least It Was a Beautiful Day. Have eaten here a number of times in the past, but I don’t know that I will be quick to go back again. We went for breakfast on a Saturday morning, knowing that it would likely be busy, but we got in right away. Ordered coffee as we were looking at the menu only to find out that they were out of coffee cups so we would have to wait…that’s ok, because the coffee was mediocre at best….should have gotten a soda.I got the Veggie Bleu scramble which was actually pretty good, but my hashbrowns were burnt, like black, burnt. You would think you would notice that when you put them on the plate. It was a beautiful day at the airport, but for the ambiance and a better meal I think next time I will go to The Flight Deck in Salem.
First Class Portions and Service. Not sure why I had not visited this cafe before today and will definitely pay another visit in the near future. We were welcomed the friendly staff and the aroma of delicious meals being made in the kitchen. The dining is rather small but after a short wait we were seated rather quickly. I quickly scanned the menu and decided on breakfast and there is plenty to choose from too. Given the wide variety of choices I settled on the ‘DPB’, pretty much the kitchen sink of breakfast meals. It came with a half order of biscuits and gravy, half order of hash browns, three eggs, two sausage links, two strips of bacon, one pancake and one slice of french toast. Now I a big guy and can pack away the food, but even this proved too much for me to finish. I am not sure what was my favorite part of the meal as it all was very good but would have to say the biscuit and gravy may just eked out the advantage. My wife and two daughters were all satisfied with their meals as well. My wife ordered a side of french toast and a side of hash browns both of which were sizable portions. My oldest just order a waffle, she ate about half and stated she was full. My youngest and pickiest eater order chocolate chip pancakes and a sausage link. Typically this little one will take a couple of bites and decides she doesn’t like it, but today she ate the sausage and about a third of her pancake portion before claiming she was stuffed. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. Our server made sure our coffees were topped off and everything was to our liking. Oh and the fact this little gem of a restaurant sits near the runway of the local airport. This is a big plus for this aviation nut. I look forward to going back in the spring when the weather is nicer and sit at the outdoor tables. So if you want to have a good meal and not walk away hungry touchdown at the Starduster Cafe for great service, large portions of delicious food and great views of aircraft vintage to modern.
Horrible. Just got back not 5 minutes ago and felt a need to write a review to warn people about this place. I don’t understand how Star Duster can have such a high rating. Everything there was subpar. The salad seemed like the Green Iceberg brand you can buy in a bag at Roth’s. The beans and ham were under seasoned and microwaved before being brought to the table. The All-You-Can eat riblets were TERRIBLY BLAND. A little salt and pepper goes a long way…a lesson they should soon learn. The only decent part of the meal was the bottled Jimmy Deans BBQ sauce they served with the pork, the microwaved cornbread and free refills on my soda.I will not be going back there. Right now my stomach is rumbling and I imagine I’ll be spending a good portion of my night on the toilet in response to this sub-par menu. Save your money, go to mcdonalds or buy some oven-cooked lasanga at walmart. Seriously.
Huge, yummy, perfectly greasy breakfast! Prices are great, but the view is out of this world. So fun to eat on the deck and watch the planes land and pull right up. Several events during the summer make for extra fun. Service can be pretty slow (though always very nice), but then again, it is most always packed full and they have a pretty tiny kitchen! Well worth the wait!
An excellent start to your day!. On a cloudy Sunday morning my friends and I headed out for an adventure. Our first stop was a much needed breakfast that was basically along the way. The Star Duster Cafe fit the bill as we trundled in about 7:30 or so. The timing was just about perfect as we were minutes ahead of the initial breakfast rush. We all took a table in the corner closer to the airfield hoping to see some activity. Water & menus followed in short order along with a round of coffee. I ordered a mighty Mountain Man Omelette consiting of Ham, Bacon, Mushrooms, Roasted Garlic & Cheddar Cheese topped with Gravy. (The roasted garlic got me in trouble later in the day!) I was craving gravy and this dish fit the bill! Everyone ordered something different and we were all pleased with our meals. Our coffee cups never ran dry. We settled our bill and were soon on our way to the Valley of the Giants! (A remote old growth forrest.) This is definitely a good way to start an adventure via land or air. It’s kinda off the beaten path next to the airport but well worth finding.
Great food.. My husband and I went to the Star Duster Cafe for breakfast. Wow, the food is amazing there. Great prices for great food! I think they could do with updating the inside of the restaurant though. They didn’t have matching chairs which makes it look kind of cheap inside.
