Getting into the groove. One of the greatest things about Posies is Jessie, the owner, who is always listening and refining the business and concept of the cafe. And really, this cafe has many personalities, depending on the time of day and the day of the week, showing that’s it’s a true reflection of our diverse neighborhood. I’m in there on weekdays in the morning for coffee meetings, or in the later morning with my kids for story time. I can work there in the afternoons when it’s quiet and mellow, or go in on a Sunday afternoon and read through the NYT. The best addition is the new nighttime music you can get a glass of wine or a beer and dessert and if you don’t have a sitter you can still bring your well-behaved children. I was really struck by how quiet the kids where while the music played and thought that maybe this is the way all humans should be sharing a Saturday night–generations together, enjoying great art and food, relaying the stories of the week. This cafe mirrors the rhythm of its neighbors. It may not be exactly what you need in *this* moment, but you can be sure that it will be at a later time, under different circumstances. (If you need a reliably quiet place to work middday, and Posies is doing a kid-thing, I highly recommend Blend up on Killingsworth.)Besides all that, the Ristretto coffee is fabulous and the pastries are fresh and many are made in-house by a professional pastry chef. Once in a while they have pastries for the food-sensitive/vegan set. Thanks again to Jessie for taking on the mind-boggling task and responsibility of opening a new business in a tough time and giving Kenton neighbors a place to gather, connect, share…and even meet some deadlines via laptop/wifi.

Deafeningly Noisy. We had good coffee and (for the child in our group) cocoa here on a Sunday morning. Each time espresso was made – maybe once every few minutes – the barista banged loudly and repeatedly on some part of the machine for 30 or so seconds. Was something broken? It was hard to hear ourselves think OR talk. In addition because of all the hard surfaces, the steaming of milk, the grinding of beans and other normal cafe sounds were unpleasantly loud. Sure, there were toddlers running wild at times but they weren’t part of the noise problem. Someone needs to put a lot more thought into making this place comfortable for patrons. The five of us won’t be returning. It was headache-inducing.

Hhhhhmmmmm…. Happy to see Posies open up in the neighborhood but I’m left feeling pretty disappointed. It’s a zoo of a coffee shop. Kids running around everywhere, horrible music and bad acoustics. Then you add the (under-staffed) staff running around like chickens with their heads cut off…yikes! Thank god they serve Ristretto coffee. I might be back but not for a while, they need to get it together.

A Real Coffee Shop for Real People. For too long I watched Kenton experience a painfully slow rebirth. When Posies opened earlier this year, the neighborhood took a huge leap forward. The welcoming staff, cozy nooks for reading/talking/people watching, the outstanding coffee, amazing baked goods are such a boon for our little hamlet in North Portland. What I love best about Posies–it is a true neighborhood spot. It is a place for EVERYONE, not just the tatoo’d and disaffected (although they’re there too:). Kids, elders, politicians, musicians, parents– Posies is a place where people come to experience Kenton. And the coffee is dang good too. Kudos to Jessy and her crew. Posies is a true neighborhood treasure.

Just what Kenton needed!. Yay for Posies! It’s so great to have a coffee shop in neighborhood AND it’s awesome that everyone is super friendly, the pastries are delicious and hello? there’s even soft-serve ice cream. It is family friendly which is terrific because Kenton has a lot of young families who need different places to go. They’ve been there less than 6 months and already seem to have a devoted customer base. We love ’em.

Good shop, new things always happening. Posie’s is a rather new addition to the Kenton neighborhood. I welcome it. The space is relaxed and there’s room for the laptoppers, knitters, and artists. There’s even a playroom for the kids! On Wednesdays, there’s a woman who reads stories to the kids. Other times there’s live music. There’s local art on the walls. They’ve got a great Facebook page so you can keep up with what’s up.I go to Posie’s often; sometimes it’s really busy and there’s a wait. Sometimes it’s just me and the one staff member. No matter what, I look forward to good eats and nice people.Like other restaurants, they don’t always have everything on the menu; sometimes it’s a sunny day and everyone decides to go out for cupcakes or turkey sandwiches (it’s weird how the world works that way).

Best coffee shop in the area. I’ve lived in Kenton for nearly 2 years and have often lamented the lack of a good neighborhood coffee shop. Posies has filled that niche beautifully for me.The coffee, pastries, and service are all great. I will say that I don’t go there between 10 AM and Noon if I want quiet time. There tend to be an abundance of little kids during that time especially. Some days that’s okay, or even a lot of fun (who doesn’t love making googly faces at the kid across the way?), but if I want to sit and read quietly then I get my coffee to go.
