The staff is really great and the menu has a good amount of options however I am not a fan of the meat both times I came to the restaurant. It was mostly bland and not appetizing.

Yummy Hawaiian food and great Mac salad. Good little spot, never too crowded. Food is fresh tasting and flavorful. I have had the chicken katsu and the pulled chicken sandwich which has a pineapple slaw and a secret sauce. It’s all so great!! Prices are also very reasonable, better than some fast food but way better . Staff is so-so, but it’s an order up front and eat/fill your drink/clean off your table on your own place. Easy going and chill atmosphere.

The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was so relaxing. I have to say, our first visit here has been a great experience. The counter person was more than willing to give us great suggestions on what to order and offered detailed descriptions of each item we asked about. Definitely coming back here!

Captain Fish Head. When I saw that their special was a grilled Tombo (Albacore Tuna) Sandwich, I knew that was the way to go. As when it comes to Chicken, Im not a huge fan of thigh meat, which is whats typically used in Hawaiian chicken dishes. And, to be frank, Ive had so many disappointing Kalua Pig (Pulled Pork) plates in PDX that I dont even bother anymore. Flyin’ Hawaiian does it right, so I stick solely to his. But I quickly found I was going to get a bite of Ate-oh-Ates rendition regardless, because thats what my wife ordered. So, once the monies were dealt with we sat down, choosing a table that gave us a clear working view of their kitchen. Between the funky, 70’s surf movie showing on the TV and watching the kitchen crew work their tricks, we were well entertained. The plates arrive and things are looking good. There was a plethora of beautifully cooked Tuna on that brioche bun as well as some pineapple cabbage slaw, sweet onions and, after I was done with it; a light whip of Sriracha for a little kick. Wow; The tuna was delicious. Juicy and thick, it looked like they either took a large fillet and folded it over, or stacked 2 small fillets on top of each other. Whatever they season it with worked like a charm with the flavor of the slaw. I cant remember a better fish sandwich than this one. I took my time, pulling drags off my Sapporo and bagging the occasional Taro chip. In the meantime my wife is working on her sandwich. She said it wasnt bad, but as usual, it suffered from the same problem that it usually does everywhere else, it was more watterlogged that juicy; lacking any texture other than mush. I took a bite and agreed. Thats why we stick with homeboys version over at Flyin Hawaiian. Anyhow, as I worked my sandwich, eye on the kitchen, I had a few revelations. First off, the Chicken Teriyaki that was sizzlin on the grill looked awesome. My hesitations on that front were thrown out the door. Also, I saw him slapping together a burger by hand. The size of the patty looked serious. I would never think to order a burger from a Hawaiian joint, but Ill certainly keep that image in the back of my head; who knows? The people who worked there were certainly nice enough and the kitchen crew seemed focused on what they were doing and that showed on what they were putting out. We will certainly return, though its gonna be a b!tch choosing between that Tombo again or checking out their chicken teriyaki.Grade: B (an otherwise great meal, but the soppy pig cant be overlooked) drexlermcstyles.tumblr.com

Best Hawaiian I’ve had in Portland. Chicken Katsu and Shoyu are great. Great Mac salad. Like that they have some veggie options too which I never fine with Hawaiian places.
