Eggs Benedict with dill hollandaise, bacon and avocado was amazing. Hubby had biscuits and gravy and they were really good too. We went on a Sunday morning, at 10, and only had to wait soul approx ten minutes.

Cute place, but the food is bizarrely off with strangely flavored meat and clashing unexpected textures.

Cute but not delicious. I saw the line outside of this place on many occasions, and decided to try weekend brunch a few weeks ago. I was impressed with the menu, and liked the cozy atmosphere, but the food was less than delicious. The Louisiana crab hash was dry, and tasted like gumbo without liquid. The ‘old bay’ type of spiced overwhelmed the hash. I also found out that the tiny bit of crab was a ‘blend’ of imitation and real crab (humph). The server raved about the ‘homemade biscuits’ and they were dry and crumbled so badly I couldn’t even butter it. The only saving grace was that the bus boy chased after someone that left their wallet behind, so I have nothing but good things to say about the staff.

This morning, my family and I ate a yummy breakfast at City State Dinner. It was our first time there and we left happy. My husband enjoyed his Pepper Bacon Scramble and I loved my Hazelnut Challah French Toast with two eggs (perfectly cooked – over medium), and two thickly sliced, delicious pepper bacon. We are quite picky when eating out, and I can report that yes, we will be going back again! Bottom line: I would recommend this restaurant to a friend (for breakfast, at least – we haven’t eaten there for lunch yet)!

Best breakfast I have ever had!. While I was in Portland I knew I was going to eat some great food, however I did not think I would come across the absolute best breakfast I have ever eaten. As always I hopped on the internet and went to my sources to find a great places to go on a rainy day. Walked in to this diner, low light (love it!) with windows running along the front of the store. Very nice atmosphere with great artwork all around. Only a few customers as it was the middle of the week and not during an busy time. The waiter was amazing, friendly, and laid back. No pressure feeling at all from him. I got coffee to drink (late night out drinking) to perk me up, and might I say the coffee was great. The menu had so many amazing selections, but I had come with a dish in mind, something I eat maybe once a year (and my heart hates it!) Biscuits and Gravy, and to add on the insult to my heart, I decided to get a side of bacon (I seriously cant wait to tell you about the bacon!). Now the order was put in, however the cook was up-stairs prepping something and didn’t know that he had an order to fill, so some time passed and the waiter came over (take note here other waiters) and was straight up with me and told me what had happened, and gave me the coffee on the house. I was not upset in the least as they told me what was going on, communication is key! You got points for this, highly impressed. The order didn’t take much longer to get to my table. The presentation of the dish was amazing, and for a breakfast! I got 2 biscuits smothered in sausage gravy, 2 eggs scrambled, and potatoes. And of course my side of THICK cut, peppered bacon. The gravy was of an absolute perfect consistency; not to runny or thick. The sausage in it was absolutely tasty and it blew my mind. The biscuits were of great quality and fresh. The eggs I can honestly say reminded me of my Grandmothers, so much flavor, yet allowing the natural egg taste to come through. The potatoes were no joke! They were seasoned with something I imagine came from heaven, and I would have payed to find out how to make them. The bacon, was honestly, the best I have ever had. I like thick cut, and peppered bacon, so this was just a win, win, win for me. Cooked absolutely perfect and actually garnished with a bit of chive (I think it was chive). On top of all of that the restrooms were very clean, as was the entire restaurant. Every time and I mean every time! I am in Portland I will eat here. And I suggest you do the same. Thank you City State Diner, your food is amazing!

Make me some hashbrowns!. I’m in the same boat as most other reviewer here. They do some great things but then there’s so ho-hum elements as well (typically sides). Wish they had hashbrowns!
