I live right across the street from Mad Greek and it’s one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. Delicious gyros- You can actually taste the lamb. Wonderful service and good beer.

If a Mediterranean Geek, Go to Mad Greek!. When visiting the family in Portland recently, I mentioned my love for all foods Greek and Delis in general. My bro-in-law Babalui recommended a family eats excursion to the Mad Greek. Thank you Babalui, great recommendation, now I have to forward the good deed! This place has everything youd want and/or expect from not only a neighborhood eatery, but the old-style deli counter and service, the simple sports bar attributes of TVs, a bar area, a separate dining area, large and clean with convenient close-by street parking and last, but certainly not least, an extraordinary selection of tasty, quality and appetizing eats selection. Needless to say, the evening started with some great ice cold Alfa beer great stuff! The bunch of us ordered an array of goodies, that were truly goodies. Nothing ordered was anywhere less than good. We got some fantastic Gyro and Souvlaki platters as good as Ive had anywhere, and Im picky about my Gyros. I tried something Id never seen, heard of or tried before Feta Tater Tots… WOW, simply terrific. Their regular fries were fantastically season and their the big-ass fries I like, crispy outside, moist and tender on the inside! And, they have these fantastic Mini Dolmas… bite size, but pack a great taste punch. Check this place out, you wont go wrong!

It made me sad to find out Foti’s had sold. But happy that he has retired and is finally getting to enjoy the fruits of 30+ years of hard work. I was hopeful that the food would remain the same when I heard most of the original staff was preparing it. I ordered at Gyro and a small spanakopita. The pita was stale the lettuce shredded way to fine, there was not enough tatziki so it was dry the feta was cut into cubes that were too big and awkward. My spanokapita was very dry and seemed a day or two old. I was sad. Hopefully the soccer sports bar will bring in enough cash to keep this Greek landmark afloat, because it seems unlikely that the food will. They have added way too much to the menu. Keep it simple, fresh, consistent, delicious and affordable and the people will come back in droves.

Best Gyros ever. We moved to Portland about a year ago and being Greek I started looking for the best Greek food I could find in the area. I heard about the mad Geek from from friends and learned that it had just changed hands and was under new management. So we went ino try the gyros. They were fantastic the sauce was the best! It was full of feta cheese, crispy fresh lettuce and flavorful meat. We go at least once every couple weeks to take some home! Yum………….

Just as good as Foti’s!. I was skeptical this place could be as good as Foti’s because they were the best and you can’t beat the best. But, Mad Greek has some old favorites and many new additions. My lamb aegina gyro wasn’t quite as good as before, (seemed a little salty and missed the lettuce), so next time I think I’ll just order a regular Foti’s gyro (which is a menu item). I’ll definitely be going back. My friends agree, this is a suitable replacement for Fotis that doesn’t really compromise on quality.
