Bad happy hour experience…. I’ve lived in portland for a few months and have been impressed with the wide variety and high quality food in portland both in brick/mortar establishments and from food carts. Decided to check out Umi while walking home from the gym and was lured in by a poster of ramen. There are some amazing ramen joints in town and what did I receive at my table but PACKAGED RAMEN that had a pitiful assortment of vegetables compared to what was on the menu. My sushi rolls were also a little sweet and just didn’t look very artistic or appetizing. I know this was a happy hour but I’ve been to some amazing restaurants that still managed to maintain a good quality standard during happy hour. I’ve been to some sushi restaurants for happy hour and had some great sushi at great prices. Really disappointed and can’t recommend this to anybody in such a wonderful food city like Portland.
The staff was very helpful, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice. We will come back here whenever we’re in town
Pros: Waitress was super friendly and accommodating. Sushi was prepared quickly. Prices were very reasonable. I had to ask if she forgot to charge for our beers. Sushi was good, not great but a step above the conveyer belt joints popping up all over.Cons: rolls were very thick which I don’t like. That’s really about the only thing I didn’t like…..We took our three kids here as they live sushi but value quantity over quality. It was still enjoyable for my husband and I and the low bill was a real treat! We will go again
Wow, if you’ve never been here you should take some time out of your day to enjoy some surprising fresh tasting sushi. Everything was delicious there. I use hamachi/yellowtail to test our sushi places and this place was surprisingly great.
Budget Japanese Food. If you love Japanese food but don’t like the usual high prices, than Umi is the place for you. The wait staff is super friendly and they have a nice cozy atmosphere with booths. While it is not the highest quality Japanese food, it is good, filling and won’t cost too much. Be careful not to order too much the first time you go!!
