Poor service – Excellent Food. My wife and I decided to try Pomodori to celebrate our anniversary after reading the numerous positive reviews on several sites. We sent an email to the restaurant to make reservations in advance, let them know it was our first visit and that it was for an anniversary dinner. Upon arrival we were the first patrons in the restaurant, and were seated at a high-top table in a corner next to the bar. The waitress took our drink order, answered some questions about the menu and took our order. After a bit of a wait, our appetizer arrived, which was delicious. The restaurant began filling up and at that point my wife and I exchanged seats at our table. My wife suffers from a medical condition that has resulted in patches of hair loss, and she is understandably very self conscious about other people seeing it. Initially she sat with her back facing out into the restaurant, but as the place filled up, she wanted to sit with her back to the wall so that it would be a little less noticeable. The waitress returned with our salads, and was briefly confused by our swap since she had our salads in the wrong hand. My wife briefly explained the reason for the swap, to which the waitress replied Oh, vain are we. To say the least we were shocked by this sort of insulting comment. We should have walked out at that point, but not wanting to ruin our anniversary, we stayed. The service following that incident was slow. It was clear that they were understaffed, but we didnt observe any sort of hustle on the part of the waitress, bartender or other gentleman present, as one would normally expect in an establishment that emphasizes service. Our drink glasses were refilled only once, and that only after asking for refills. We observed most tables served baskets of bread, which we did not receive. In fairness, perhaps this was a part of the specific meals they ordered, but generally most Italian restaurants offer bread, so we are left wondering. In the end, our waitress stopped by our table to inform us that she would get our check ready, then as an afterthought, offered us dessert, which we declined. We most certainly felt that we were being rushed out. The food itself was excellent, and is no doubt the reason for the good reviews. The service was very substandard. We dont often post on sites like this, but rather sent an email to the restaurant first, to give them the benefit of the doubt. We did receive a reply which was essentially a half-hearted apology and list of excuses. The slow service was blamed on other folks that had arrived and were trying to make some show. I dont see how we should be ignored for this. We were also told that the fact we ordered an appetizer somehow resulted in slower service. It was explained that almost all of their staff had recently either quit or been fired, and our waitress was only 4 days on the job. This might have some bearing on the slowness, but not on the insult. It really is too bad that the service was so terrible. The food here was among the best we have found since recently moving to the area.
This place has done a huge turn around for the best I feel location is awesome !! In the old downtown historic district .. Very classy joint! The food is awesome and the specials are where it’s at .. I found lunch and dinner specials are great ! Only down side is the server we had the other night younger guy in glasses .. He was nice but talks about his other job way tok much we thought.. Other then that emery thing was good worth checking out for sure
So… It’s been a few years since I’ve been back. I’m glad I returned… Sort of. Service was fine… Not great but fine. Ordered the shrimp app…. Their attempt on a groovy shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were large firm well chilled and not overcooked. Nice – but what’s up with serving a warmed up bottled sweet and sour chili sauce with it? That’s an Asian seasoning and u all aren’t fusion cuisine. Caesar salad arrived… This showed an improvement from my last visit. My only complaint…. Croutons can make or break a good Caesar. The prepackaged hard guys don’t cut it… Make your own croutons people. Your an italian restaurant …. What u dont have left over bread floating around?Cheaper. Easier. Tastier. I ordered the Fettucini with Lobster Basil cream sauce. All fine but ummmmm… That’s not lobster. That’s one of those fako imitation things. Which for some is perfectly fine…. But just disclose reality here… And if it is fako… U don’t get to charge a premium at $20 a plate. One last thing …, It’s summer. Fresh basil is everywhere! Why are u using the dried kind? All in all. This place has improved but I think they could kick it out of the park with a couple simple and obvious attempts at detail.
Absolutely my favorite place to eat in the Rogue Valley. The service is top notch and the owner is amazingly personable. The steak florentine is delicious as are the various pork chop dishes. Their wine menu is quite large and the servers are well aware of what wines pair well with each dish. Most importantly on why I love this place is that they have the best cheese cake of any where I’ve ever ate. I can’t say enough good things about Pomodori’s.
The food was excellent but after 2 visits, both with poor service, I won’t go back. On our last visit my husband and I were ignored even though the place was moderately busy.
Love their Meatballs. My wife and I eat there at least twice a month. i love their pasta with meatballs and I substitute one meatbball for a sausage and order an extra cesaer salad. My wife and I share it for around $20.00. And it tastes GREAT!
Well Done!. Excellent Italian food and flavor, great portions….and the best tiramisu ever 🙂
