This is a great little diner. Not the fastest place, but this food is definitely worth the wait. The owner cares about the quality of the food and actually asks customers their opinion on possible menu and ingredient changes (bacon strips vs. bacon rounds, for example). I love their Hillbilly burger. It’s a heart attack on a plate, but oh so tasty. Also, their fries are seasoned and very delicious. If you find yourself up the Canyon and in the mood for a burger, make a stop here. You won’t regret it.

Tasty Burger and Tots. After a few hours of tromping around in the Santiam State Forest looking for chanterelles a little early in the season I had worked up an appetite. The lunch special at Poppa Al’s fit the bill: a 1/4 lb. burger and fresh cooked tater tots (and lots of ’em — more than I could finish) and a drink for $8.50. My order came out fast. It was tasty. This was my first trip to Poppa Al’s. Some of the other menu items looked interesting. I’ll have to come back and try to homemade chili.

Back again last week………… This has been a great burger place in the past. I stopped in with my bother and nephew on our way to deer camp. It was a pleasant autumn day so we lunched on the deck. I had a Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich. It was loaded with a pineapple sauce. It was easily a four napkin sandwich. Unfortunately the chicken breast was very old tasting as if having been freezer burned. I will not give up on this place as several prior experiences have been more than acceptable.14 Mar, 2010You won’t leave hungry. Good burgers and fries. Reminiscent of what small town coffee shops used to be.
