Filthy, cold food, terrible service if you are not asian.. WE had a couple great meals 2013, so we have kept trying but we are now done for sure.We were there 2-21, sat by the bussing station, the worst service, food is always good but it was cold and the fact we had greasy dirty plates and utencils cancels out the good food. Also have noticed over the last couple years that it is almost like racism when eating there. Customers who speak the same language as staff are much better taken care of than we ever are. SImply asking for water, or hot sauce, anything seems to irritate the servers because they don’t understand us so they yell out for someone to come to our table, they never show up.Kitchen door opened a couple times, horrible, dirty, we almost walked out but unfortunately we stayed and tried to eat.So on 2-21 we did not tip, swore we would never ever come back, threw away $80+ worried we might get food poisening, we are done done done.
We enjoyed the worst dim sum experience of our lives there today. Most of the offering were cold and the dumplings tasted mall food court standard at best. If you love good dim sum. Avoid.
I’m at a loss where to begin!. Today we had the rare and precious pleasure to be guests of our friends Bingo and Jade who say the best Dim Sum (think Chinese small plates) in Portland is to be had right here. They have the credentials to make such a statement. They own and operate the best Chinese restaurant in Salem and have extensive national and international restaurant experience. Wong’s King is located in the corner of a strip mall. The street sign is in Chinese, so it’s easy to drive right by, even when you’re looking for it. The unassuming facade belies the spacious interior. The atmosphere is welcoming and the seating is mostly two and four tops which can be rearranged for larger parties.Mercifully, ordering was left to the capable hands of our hosts, as Carol and I hadn’t an inkling how to proceed. A whirl of servers just kept wheeling carts of tasty morsels by and Bingo and Jade just kept ordering until we had a dazzling assortment of 18 or 20 individual dishes each containing 3 or 4 small portions. Jade ordered and portioned out cups of a wonderful Rice Porridge with Chicken and Green Tea.I had high hopes of augmenting my sorry memory by fudging from their on-line menu, but there doesn’t seem to be one; probably because it’s in a constant state of flux. I’m sure I’ll miss something, but here’s what we had, as best I can describe it: Sau Mai (Pork and Water Chestnuts), Beef Balls, Shrimp Dumplings, Horseradish Cake, Tara Root Cake, Lo Mai Gai (Rice enclosed Chicken and Sausage wrapped in large Lotus Leaves), Fried Tofu Rolled Pork & Bamboo Shoots, several varieties of Shrimp and Meat filled Dumplings, Curry Pie, Turnip Cake, Yellow Creme Buns and Egg Custard in a Flaky Crust as well as several other delights which now escape me.It was a new experience for us and a wonderful leisurely meal. We couldn’t have asked for better company. We highly recommend this place. Although we had expert guidance, the Menu is beautifully illustrated with color photos of the dishes and short descriptions, in English. Anyone could satisfactorily muddle through the ordering process. Especially if you’ve never done the Dim Sum thing, you really need to try this place. We are very grateful to have had this opportunity.
If you want dim sum. This is the place!! Plus they have a extensive exotic Chinese menu to choose from. Clean and fancy. My favorite dim sum!!!
Great food great service
Best dim sum I’ve had in Portland. Much better than the dim sum places downtown. Just make sure you come early on weekends, because it will be PACKED. I don’t recommend coming on weekdays– service is slow, the selection is mediocre, and the dim sum gets cold when there’s no one there to eat it when it first comes out of the kitchen. My only complaint overall is that the portions are too large. Dim sum dishes should be for tasting, not an entire meal for one or two dishes.
Good Dim Sum. I had been wanting to go here for a long time so maybe built it up in my mind too much. The Dim Sum was good but not any better than other places in town. Maybe the selection is better on the weekend; I went during the week. The place was the cleanest in town that I had been to but that is not saying much. I will make this my new default Dim Sum choice.
