Terrible food and prices. I haven’t been to this restaurant in years. I was excited about it, he used to be very good. OH my! i am not going back ever and I wont recommend it to anybody either. Food is over price now, and not even good anymore, the portions are smaller and less of everything. Very very disappointing specially for what you get, I was in shock of that, when this restaurant changed so much for worse? too bad… 🙁
Poor Service, Food Quantity for the Price. Had dinner with a large group of family members, about a month ago. This WAS our #1 place to go, but as you will see below, my recent experience has made this restaurant a lower priority and a choice for Lebanese dining. It is expected that you have to wait to get a table. But once we were seated, it took a long time for the waitress to get our order. Once we placed the order, our mezza and main meals came in a the same time. I mean one-hour to get our food. Server’s attention to get water replenished was non-existent, and had to reminder her few times. The food quality remains to be excellent. However, the quantity and price was a disappointment, i.e. the dishes are being served with less portion, for higher price. Sorry, but this was our experience. And we will be looking for other Lebanese restaurants, which we never had to do.
Supper club. Went with 14 friends. Food was great. everything was delicious. Had to roll out the door I was so full. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Disappointing dinner in PDX. Had dinner with some friends at Ya Hala tonight. Could not be more disappointed.First of all the service was awful. We ordered some mezza(appetizers) and 4 main dishes. They brought out the main dishes before that mezz, and said that the kitchen was overwhelmed ??? ,so we had to cancel the Mezz portion. All of the main dishes were boring and had no flavor at all.We will never go back here or recomend it to anyone.Sorry, but this was our experience.
Only so-so. Very busy last night. Our group all left wondering why is was so mediocre compared to past meals. Humous was odd-not sure anything beyond garbanzos in it. Lamb kebob was overcooked and tough. Stuffed artichoke was vegetarian and swimming in greasy pool of sauce.
Not only authentic Lebanese food but a great time being served feast style… the food just kept on coming 😉
Setting the Table. This had been on Mrs. McStyles wishlist for some time and being the gentleman that I am, on this occasion, I deferred to her wishes. It was pretty busy for a Thursday afternoon but we were seated immediately. I admit that one of the reasons I like Riyadh’s is because of its quaintness. Ya Hala has more of a white tablecloth feel to it, more upscale. Yet, at the same time there were a few things that didnt quite match the setting. For one, the menus we were given were of the paper, to-go sort. In a place where the average entree is priced over $15 I would expect something a little more representative of the setting. Also, the forks had to be the made from the thinnest, cheapest aluminum Ive ever held. Absolutely flimsy tinfoil. Normally I would never think to mention the silverware when discussing a restaurant but in this case it affected the enjoyment of my meal, so….Enough of all that though, we came here to eat so lets discuss the food. I kept it simple with an order of Chicken Kabobs ($13.50) while the ol’ wifey went for the Lamb Marquez ($7.75) and of course we couldnt say no to a bowl of Lentil Soup. Our soup promptly showed up and we wasted no time. It was good, but different from what we were used to. The lentils were super pureed, which is a shame because their texture is one of the things I enjoy most about them. There were also bits of potato in there, which I thought was kind of unusual. As far as the flavor went, it was OK. Luckily, this was to be the lowlight of our meal. When our plates arrived things began looking up. I was curious as to what exactly justified my paying almost $5 more than what I pay at Riyadh’s for this same dish. Well, Ill tell you. There were 2 Kabobs, with what looked to be, 3 whole thighs on each skewer. they were the largest kabobs Ive ever seen; a massive amount of meat. After a couple dips in their wonderful Tahini, I’ll admit that I was quite happy. The basmati rice was also very nice. The rice they serve over at Nicolas is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I feel like a self loathing, glutton afterward. In this instance the rice complimented the chicken rather than being a task set before me. On the flipside of the table the misses was working away at her wrap, it was also quite large, and, she said; quite good. We ended up taking half the food home with us, so essentially it worked out to be two meals. We liked the food here, but agreed overall, that there was nothing enchanting enough to bring us back. But I attribute that more to the setting than the food.Grade: B- (our waiter was fine but seemed out of place) drexlermcstyles.tumblr.com
