  I first went to King kone in 1986. It was a run down hole in the wall with great food and cheap prices then, and nothing has changed since. My only complaint is the lady who takes the orders. She acts like she is annoyed to be bothered by people who want to give her money. If she keeps up that attitude she won’t be bothered by me very often!

  King!. The Good:King Kone is a strange little place. You get a lot of food here for not much money. This is good. They have enough quirky menu items to keep you wanting to try something different each time. I wouldn’t call any of it super duper creative, but they host plenty of items that you can’t find anywhere else in town. So this is also good. It’s got this novel, cafe/dive-type vibe to it that’s a bit of a throwback, sort of like Tastee Treat and other like burger joints that are hard to find nowadays. That’s pretty good, too. The Bad:Well… you do get what you pay for. If these people weren’t making money off this food, they wouldn’t be open. Unless they are millionaires and they live to provide a community service to the fine folks of Albany by providing burgers and ice cream at a loss… than they are certainly making money. Which means they aren’t using the highest quality ingredients out there. The burgers are frozen… they may be preformed and than frozen (probably the most inexpensive way of doing it, since bulk hamburger is usually around 2.15lb for 80/20 and frozen patties cost more than that), but they are frozen nonetheless. The fries are right out of the bag… they don’t really leave much to the imagination as the fryers are right by the counter, and the gentlemen tore into a new bag for my order. At least put them in plastic containers… leave a little bit to the imagination. The rest of the ingredients are just fine, which really help take away from the fact that the burger patty itself doesn’t have much life to it (the cow it came from would probably agree with me).They only accept cash… as a business owner I love it, because visa/mc fees are the devil, but as a consumer, I passed up my first visit here because I didn’t have cash. I left that day and didn’t come back, maybe if they had an ATM on site? But they missed out on a 10.00 ticket and im sure they would have made some money even after the .60 transaction fee. I guess since they’ve been open so long, everybody knows by now, but I can’t help but feel, in the long run, accepting CC would put more money in the pocket than take out. At least put an ATM in the store, charge a 1.50 fee, the food is so cheap people probably wouldn’t mind the charge. The Ugly:This place is scary. The first time I came, it was a dark and rainy afternoon and I did a circle in the parking lot (which is a gravel lot with not much explanation on where exactly to park) and thought twice about where I planned on eating. I eventually parked and went inside, only to see that only cash was accepted and I left my first visit for another day when my nerves had calmed down a bit and maybe the sun was out.Everything around this building is run down, and, well, even the building it is in is run down. Might as well just include everything. It’s a scary little area. Bring your kids, and possibly some form of defense. Conclusion: It’s cheap, and you get a lot of food, and really, you know what you are getting. Nobody should be complaining that this burger isn’t a handcrafted angus beef masterpiece. It serves a purpose, just like McDonalds and BK… and they do everything well, which is more than the aforementioned places can boast about. I ‘like it’ and recommend it with those caveats. If they charged more, well, this would be a different review.

  First Time. Had a King Kone burger for the first time, it was really good in a bad for you sort of way. I wouldn’t buy one all the time or you’ll probably end up in the ground. But for a special occasion or treat this is a great place for comfort food.

  Brrrr…. My first impression walking in here was whether or not they have a heater. I could swear it was in the low 60’s in the dinning area. I’m certain I could never bring my girlfriend here to eat without a heavy jacket in the winter.That aside it was much like I remember so many years ago when I was a boy and we’d stop here for cones or an ocassional burger. I took a moment to review the menu then ordered a Jr. Mushroom Burger ,a Bacon Burger and O-Rings to go. (They were out of lager buns at the time.) The regular burgers all come with fries too. Luckily I was just ahead of two groups and I was soon on my way. No complaints on service.Soon we are eating our burgers. They are cut in half for easy eating. They are fairly large so this is a nice touch. My Mushroom Burger was good but is wasn’t great. My girlfriend wasn’t impressed with the Bacon Burger I got for her. The onion rings were typical Sysco fare. They don’t skimp on the toppings or serving size. You definitely get your moneys worth here (My total bill was $11) but I think I would spend more for a burger elsewhere. These are my thoughts for now. Somewhere in the middle. I may swing by in the Summer time for a cone…

  This place is great!! A real hole in the wall does have sit down seating and has a drive through too. The burgers were great and the ‘pink & yellow sauce’ is ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise already mixed together. This place is great!!!
