Best Mexican food around. I eat ALOT of food, and the portions were pretty good sized.07 Jul, 2013When I went, it was hot inside.. The A/C was not working. However, the awesome food made up for it. Hands down the best Mexican food in town
Great Food, Friendly service. My husband and I have gone several times and want to promote this local business! They are friendly, food is wonderful and service great! Tuesday’s they have dollar taco night .. I get the carne asada taco’s…they are small corn tortilla’s but piled with meat for the $$….We love the fact that we now have a restaurant closed to home that we can go to…the others failed because of the poor food, we would love to see them succeed!
I went easy here today……. Mostly because I had my sights set on trying a little carniceria back room taqueria and I wanted to have room to do it.It’s worthy of mention that two respected prime members have expressed luke-warm impressions of this place and have deferred voting until more experience here can be gained.Although a single Pork Torta is scant material from which to paint a detailed representation, a couple of observations set this place apart from others in my mind. The usual Chips were proffered to get me started. Bean Dip, Salsa Verde and two Red Salsas were provided. One of the Reds was a real stand-out. In fact, I requested a refill. It was rich and thick and was an explosion of flavorful, spicy goodness. Do not infer from this that it was hot. It was, in fact, fairly mild. If and when you visit La Roca, pay special attention to this!My Torta was good. The Bread was fresh, soft and chewy and it was loaded with big chunks of Pork, Lettuce, Tomato and Avocado. (I asked them to hold the Mayo) I enjoyed it very much. I reigned myself in on the Chips and Salsa with my forward mission in mind. The fellows that served me did a good job. They do not accept American Express. On a scale of 1 to 5, I’d rate La Roca a solid 3.5.
Kind Of Ok….. I stopped by this building for dinner in hopes that THIS would be the establishment that finally survived in this building (Tarascos, Angelicas, Rosies, and now La Roca). The restaurant has been given a significant face-lift and I had high hopes that the food did as well. When I arrived around 6pm the place was empty. I was immediately met at the door by a Hispanic fellow in his mid-twenties who took me to a booth and provided me with chips, a hot salsa, a mild salsa, and beans. I love unique food items and as soon as I opened the menu, one leaped off the page at me. A spinach and pinto bean burrito with fresh white cheese and special sauce. I inquired to the waiter if I could have the spinach burrito as part of the pick two items dinner, he said he would go ask. I sat there for a while before different man came take my order. I asked him about the possibility of the burrito switch and he said it would cost an extra dollar. Now Im no restaurateur, but it seems that the contents of the spinach burrito would be far cheaper than a regular burrito, maybe not. I conceded to the extra dollar charge and ordered a spinach burrito and a Mexican sausage Gordita (which actually means little fat girl in Spanish). My food was dished onto a hot plate and looked pretty good when it arrived at my table. The spinach burrito was just what I was hoping it would be, yummy. This unique twist on a standard burrito was a nice change of pace. The gordita, however, was unimpressive. The meal ended up around $12 which is pretty steep for what I got. I will return at a later date to give it another try before I mark it as a like or dislike because I really cannot tell from my one visit. Until further notice, I cannot suggest nor recommend that you dont give em a taste.
Out with the old…. And in with the new. This is the third Mexican restaurant making a go of it here in recent memory. Gone is the dank musky smell and in are bright, cheery colors. It’s true a fresh coat of paint and some remodeling can reinstill some life into an older building but that doesn’t make the food any better.I picked up a to go order here for myself and some co-workers on a whim and I can honestly say we were all unimpressed. That’s not to say it was terrible but you can certainly get better food for less elsewhere. My Super Nachos were okay but could not definitively identify each of the three meats and it was excessively greasy. My boss had a very small, very bland Chile Relleno. (I doubt he’ll order there again.) They haven’t been open for long so I’m pretty sure I’ll drop in again to give them a second try.
