Better Than Expected!. Fate had me next door today so I decided it wouldn’t hurt to give Ma’s a try. It’s been a few years since I last set foot in here and only a few things have changed. They still have 5 pool tables and for $5 dollars it’s hard to beat their 12 lb Burger! That along with potato salad (or Tater Tots for $1 more) is a pretty good deal. Even though they use American cheese… When I walked in one old timer was eating an omelet at the bar and a nice lady greeted me and directed me to the multiple menus on the wall behind the bar. It looks like you can get breakfast here (at 9:30), fish n’ chips, pulled pork, a burger & assorted Asian (Chinese?) dishes. It’s not a huge menu but it is varied for sure. I got one burger with the potato salad and one with tater tots to go. They come with lettuce, tomato, relish of some sort, onion, mayo & American cheese. Pretty standard pub grub. My girlfriend did not like the mayo or cheese but she liked the sweet onions. I thought for the price it was a substantial and filling burger. They won’t make my best of Albany list but that’s okay. Just to be weird I also got the 8 piece Pot Stickers with a side of hot oil/paste for $5. Out of the box? Probably, but they were certainly edible with a lot of flavor. The hot oil gave em’ a good kick! (I’ll leave the Chinese critique to the Rev should he ever set foot in here.) I got lunch for two with some leftovers for $16 today. It’s a borderline dive bar with typical amenities (pool, lottery, TV, neon, wi-fi, etc…) but they’ve been here a long time. I’m certain given the new menu it’s changed hands since I was here last. I’ll keep them on the back burner as a good secondary lunch stop that’s much closer to work plus she said the fish and chips was really good! I just might have to try them next time.
