Well tonight I experienced probably the least flavorful dishes from Ping’s in a long time. The food here has always been hit or miss in my opinion but all three entrees where off the mark. The only passable dish was the Lemon Chicken. Typical sauce with more breading than chicken but the lemon slices were good. Next up was the Cashew Chicken and bland would not do this justice. The chicken in this had notabley more grissle than the Lemon. My friend also noted the ingredients had changed dramatically from their last order. (The addition of carrots, bell peppers and lack of sprouts to name a few.) Last up was the Broccoli Beef and this had slighty more flavor than the Chicken. The beef was okay and the broccoli was still crisp but that was about it. One friend says the Steamed Rice was the best part! On a positive note the service was friendly and my order was ready for pickup when we got there. It was accurate and still hot when we got home. I suspect I won’t be back here for a long time.
Clean & Delicious. Sadly, it’s taken me two months to write this review, so any details I might have liked to share may be forgotten.I visited Ping’s Garden on a weekday, just after lunch rush. The parking lot was full, but most of the visitors were leaving by the time I got there. I waited a while to be seen and seated, but not too long. My first impression was that it’s a clean and open space.I think I remember the water had a chlorinated flavor, which is not my favorite. I ordered a sweet n sour chicken dish with some fried rice. I was going to bring a sample back to my coworker, but it was so good that I ate the whole thing instead. It was swimming in sauce, though. The portion size and quality was good, and the price was certainly fair. I paid $9, but I don’t remember if that included my tip or not. The staff was friendly and present at appropriate times.Overall, I think this is a good go-to restaurant for Chinese food. I’m new to the area, so I have yet to try other local restaurants for comparison, though. Since two months have passed, my thoughts are that Ping’s Garden is a restaurant I would visit again, yet I haven’t had the craving to do so (as one might expect if the food and experience was beyond amazing).I am sharing (mobile phone) photos of the booth design and ceiling structure, plus the dish I ordered.
Icky rice. Of all the things you would think a Chinese restaurant could make rice. Their rice is terrible. The rest of the food is good. I really like their pan fried noodles.
Love this place!
Fool Me Once…. Shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. When I was a senior in high school I had an awful experience at Pings. Flash forward seven years and vuala! I once again found myself in the thralls of mediocre dining. While admittedly it wasnt as bad as my first experience it was still not great. I went in around 4pm for a very early dinner and the place was empty. No customers, no employees, nothing but distant chatter in the kitchen. So I waited… and waited… and waited… What seemed like forever was probably only 5 minutes or so (which I consider a long time to be standing at the counter alone and unacknowledged). When a waitress finally emerged from the kitchen she took me to a booth where I was given water and a menu. I settled on the sweet and sour spare ribs with fried rice. It is interesting to note that unlike most Chinese establishments, if you want egg flower or hot and sour soup before your meal there is an extra charge. While waiting for my food, a middle aged couple came in and were seated at a booth…right next to me… (not behind or in front of me! We are talking full on side view) beings that the whole restaurant was empty and we were only 4 ft from each other, I believe it made the dining experience awkward for both parties(I know it did for me). My food arrived quickly and honestly didnt look that appetizing (think the contents of an outdated deni-morre can). However, I am not normally put off by looks (Ive eaten balute and dinuguan for crying-out-loud) so I dove right in. The ribs were very tender and you get a good amount for nine bucks, but I felt that the flavor was lacking. They didnt really taste like sweet and sour nor did they taste like traditional spare ribs. The rice, which I remember hating, was actually really good and ended up being my favorite part of the meal. My waitress was pretty friendly and the place seemed well maintained. With many better options in town, I cannot suggest giving em a taste.
I was a little dubious………….. About Ping’s Garden since it’s right in Rev. Rooster’s backyard and he’s never reviewed it and the vote percentage lent a weak recommendation. But I’d never been there and the solitary review spoke well of it.My Nephew, Scott, and I were in Albany for a gun show after attending a rally at the Capital in Salem and checked it out.The restaurant is spacious and clean, if somewhat dated and was welcoming overall. Our hostess/server seated us right away with menus and water. We both are Singapore Noodle junkies and were on it like a rainbow on a mayfly. We both ordered it spicy which was perfect for me but Scott dowsed his with healthy dose of Siracha Sauce. The Shrimp was plentiful and the portions were more than adequate. It was a good version of this dish and one I would not hesitate to order again. It’s hard to judge a place on the strength of one dish, but I’d say this one was above average, if not stellar. The place was fairly busy for two in the afternoon and many of the patrons were Asian. Several other items, on the menu, looked interesting.I shall return!
Great Eat. The food was fresh, hot, and really delicious. The customer service was great too. My server was on top of drinks, checking in with my table for anything we might need, and bringing us stuff for our food we would need before we even had to ask. This place is clean, cozy, and has an overall great environment. The Cha rsiu baus are my absolute favorite things there. I can seriously make a meal out of these – they are also great for heating as leftovers later.
