Little Confused. I ate lunch yesterday at Sam City and got the Chicken Combo which my bill came to $9.99 so I left a $2 cash tip on the table went up to pay my bill with my debit card and zero’d out the tip on the receipt. I just checked my bank account and was charged an additional $2 more than my bill. I have tried to call them but their phone number online is not in service. I am not happy about paying $4 for a tip for a $9.99 meal.

Love it. Food is excellent and there is quite a variety of Asian and Asian inspired dishes. Pho, of course, is great. Tonight I had the Christians yakisoba, which was excellent. Vegetables and chicken were cooked excellently. Just enough bite. Service is always excellent. Quick, polite, but not the fake-gouge-out-your-eyes level of saccharine that I don’t like.
The food was okay. My wife and I went in for happy hour. The sign said half price apps and the waitress confirmed this. After we ordered the waitress told us that you only get the half prices apps if you buy an entre. So we got an entre and only one of our apps was half price when we got the bill. My wife ordered a large mixed drink which was $8.00 and had very little alcohol in it. All in all not a complete disaster but we won’t be going back.
Brilliant, or Damned Close!. We have been looking for a great Asian-fusion restaurant from Portland to Eugene, Cascades to the Pacific, and after several years of questing, Sam’s City is easily, EASILY at the top of that extensive list. Bear in mind, we have only experienced Sam’s once at this point, though that will be rectified almost immediately. Exterior is rather ordinary, though the interior is quite pleasant, tranquil, and honors and Asian vibe without being over the top. Host Christian was very pleasant, accommodating, and listened carefully to our questions and discussions. His suggestions were spot on. A very commendable appetizer sampler for some breadth, and we shared Christian’s Choice and Mark’s Favorite, and it is clear why they are the first and third best selling items on the menu; brilliant balance of textures, complex flavors, and an artful blending of spicy and lightly sweet. Again, significantly better then the many good Asian restaurants we have experienced over the years, and will be a regular dining experience from this point on.
Our favorite Asian restuarant, miss the Sweet Home location. Sam’s teriyaki sause is the best ever!
