Tried this place because of the great reviews…when my guests and i were seated we were met by a rude almost hostile waitress. I was polite the entire time and rewarded by my waitress staring me down the entire time. The food was decent but i will not be returning because of the horrible service.
Out to Lunch…. My sister and I were downtown today doing some business and decided to turn it into a lunch date. I had heard of Taqueria Alonzo but had no idea where it was located until I drove by Two Rivers Market. The outside of the restaurant, in my humble opinion, is cleverly designed with a very south of the border paint job. Upon entering, the spicy vibe increased with a well decorated and clean dining area. We arrived at about 11 am so we were the only customers in the house (probably in the whole market for that matter). Not knowing what to do, we stood in the entrance for a few moments until a waitress came and got us. I found out later that this was a order at the counter place. We were seated, given menus, water, and the bonus chips and salsa. The chips are made fresh and the pico de gallo was some of the best I have had. Silly me, thinking this place was going to spend like a taqueria (really cheap), soon discovered was more along the lines of los dos amigos when it comes to price. I ordered the cheapest item on the menu, the standard burrito, and my sister ordered the supreme chimichanga. My burrito consisted of large chunks of beef steak, whole beans (a nice change of pace), rice, and more of that fantastic pico de gallo; all of which was loving wrapped in a large flour tortilla. My sisters chimichanga (essentially a deep-fried burrito) was packed out with shredded pork and a tanker truck of guacamole. As we were eating the place really started filling up with people. If you want some good food or just want to see one of the last remaining businesses that is keeping the two rivers market from imploding into an abandoned and penniless dust-ball, give em a taste!
Love this place. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant I’ve discovered. While working in Albany, I ate here almost every day. The freshly made chips are amazing, and the Super Burritto is awesome. I actually drove hundreds of miles just to come here once.
