Sold out to a shopping mall bread conglomerate. Pity.08 May, 2009THIS is a bagel.. Chewy and flavorful. An authentic bagel that’s on par with a true NYC bagel. And oh my Gd they have bialys!
Gold Replaced by Crap. Trading Kettleman’s Bagels for Einstein Bros was like culinarily moving from a top of the line Jaguar to a used Plymouth Neon. I wish this corporation and its’ many local locations a quick and merciful death.
Follow-up. The Certificate of Kashrut has been fully renewed.25 Jul, 2011Best attempt at a true NYC bagel shop in Portland. Bagels are delicious. Lox quality a bit lacking. Glad to find hamantaschen and rugalach; would have liked to see halvah too. Also, for those who care, the Certificate of Koshrut has expired.
Great coffee, flavorful bagels, nice atmosphere.
So good. I got the plain bagel toasted with smoked salmon and cream cheese on it. Wonderful spread, the salmon was incredibly fresh and so delicious. The bagel was great. My only complaint, if it even qualifies as one, was that there was a lot of cream cheese on it.
Good food but slow, $$$. Nice place if you are not on a schedule and have some extra cash. There were about 4 or 5 employees milling around, but evidently only one can actually take your order. Then, the one that prepared the food very slowly put your sandwich together. It was not even crowded, which is not surprising since a turkey sandwich (with avocado) set me back over $8! The sandwich was delicious, just too bad I had to rush back to work to eat it. Maybe a good place for a Sunday morning splurge when you can just hang out and enjoy.
Passion for bagels. I enjoy kettlemen’s bagels — as a former new york resident, i feel they are the closest Portland comes to the doughy goodness of the East coast… my fav combo — evertything bagel with vegan cream cheese, tomato, avocado and onion. goes great with a latte!
