Decent food, surly staff. I like banh mi but it’s got to be without mayonnaise. I loathe the stuff–always have. Anyway, I found myself in NW Portland one day recently and stopped at Fat Straw. When I ordered a sandwich without mayonnaise, the fellow taking my order acted offended and told me that they made their own mayonnaise. Makes no difference to me–I’ve tried making it myself, too. I simply detest the stuff (as do many other people). I shouldn’t have to argue with the person taking my order, fer chrissakes.

Good bubbles, okay drink. Let’s start with the good: Prices are about the going rate for bubble tea (~$4). Good selection of flavors, and tapioca balls are cooked to a perfect chewiness.Unfortunately, the actual drink is nothing special. While the pina colada frozen drink that I had was passable, I’ve definitely had better at other bubble tea joints. Bottom line: If you’re craving bubble tea and you’re in the area, this is a good option. Just don’t drive across town for it.
