We own kens book and have tried out many of the bread recipes so had to visit the bakery while we were visiting Portland. It didn’t disappoint, the bread was amazing, great pastries and coffee. However it was very busy and we struggled to find seating.

Kens is famous and for good reason. Weve been going to Kens now for awhile and its our favorite bakery in NW. All of their breads are great, especially the ciabatta. Although theyre not normally open in the evening, they do have a special pizza night on Mondays from 5:30PM to 9:30PM. The pizza was very good and certainly fresh. magoguide.net

Wonderful bakery right on NW 21st. Everything is baked fresh there. The employees were lovely. I can’t wait to try their macaroons next time! 🙂

the Banh Mi was really bad. very hard bread. Weird flavors. Boring pork meat. we didnt enjoy it at all. However its a nice location and seems to have quite a few customers most of the time (its close to where we stay on vacation).

My fave coffee hang out in Northwest. The top-notch caneles are worth the mile walk each way. And there’s always a nice selection of French pastries, often with seasonal embellishments. Plus some of the best bread in the city.Pictured: Passionfruit Cream Tart; Mixed Fresh Fruit Tart with Pastry Cream; Bahn Mi w/ 5 Spice Pork Terrine, Pickled Daikon, Carrots, Wasabi, Mayo Sriracha on Baguette; Marionberries & Hazelnut Cream in Croissant Dough. thelunacafe.com

Such a beautiful little place. Went with a good friend and it is such a good place for conversation and has wonderful natural lighting. Good pastries and coffee (stumptown), supporter of their purveyors and great customer service. I would recommend this as a great early morning breakfast place since Portland normally doesn’t wake up until 10 or 11.

We stopped for a quick lunch today. We both had the salad and sandwich special. The price was reasonable. The salad had a nice dressing – not too sweet or too acidic. They put the best goat cheese I have ever had on it. It’s from the Portland Creamery, and is not chalky or strong, but smooth and wonderful chvre. We had the croque Monsieur and the Kens Hero. The croque Monsieur was open faced and the bread was a little burned from being over toasted. It was still pretty good, although not very authentic. The Kens Hero was very good. It has wonderful pickeled onions and a nice dressing. I also liked the iced tea with what I think was spearmint infusion. It was a nice light lunch, and we may go back again. Glancing at the pastries, they seemed a little dense and not as inviting, but we can’t judge them since we didn’t take even a small bite. So go to Kens and enjoy a nosh on the corner while looking out the open window. It’ll be a nice relaxing time.
