Great food, humorless inattentive service. My wife and I went for her birthday, having heard the food was great. We were not disappointed in that respect, but the wait staff was incredibly humorless and inattentive. Except for the hostess, she was wonderful. We would go back if friends wanted to, but not us, there are too many great places in portland with equally great staffs.

Delicious. Had an amazing meal here. Loved everything about this little restaurant. Service was great. The veal stew was perfectly prepared, and absolutely delicious. The trout was the best dish out, I’ve tasted in a while, just wish the fish had been a little bigger. Can’t wait to go back.

Best Birthday Dinner Ever!. My boyfriend took me here (on my request 🙂 for my birthday and it was a special dining experience as a birthday dinner ought to be. The service was outstanding, they were so accomodating to our picky chair hopping lol. I loved the ambiance, the candles, the different rooms and the bar is really cool. They make special drinks and they are worth every penny. The presentation makes your heart warm. We had the chicken liver mouse oh how decandent, and the beef carpaccio (elegant presentation) both very tasty. Then we ventured out and tried the fried tripe. Finally the blood sausage was our main course. I think our servers name was Shaun and he was very attentive to us the entire evening. He suggested a great Champagne and brought me a surprise birthday dessert.I cannot wait to go back but don’t want to spoil the experience by doing it too often. It’s a special place.

Yummy French Hors d’Oeuvres. I went during Happy Hour (4-5:30) with a friend. I ordered the Chicken Liver Mousse, which was outstanding, and a goat and white cheese spread. My friend ordered the butter lettuce salad (the vinaigrette was wonderful). We both had the French Pearl cocktail, which was also excellent. I ordered this drink again when I had dinner here a week later.

Pas mal mais rien de spcial. My friends and I had been talking about going here for weeks! We all love French food and had heard good things, as well as heard the good review from l’Alliance franaise. We, unfortunately, were not entirely impressed, however, weren’t completely disappointed either. First off, we had made reservations for 4 people, arrived between 5 and 10 minutes early, and STILL had to wait a half hour for a table. The server, however, was very apologetic and brought us the Pork Rillette for free, which was very generous and appreciated. The menu is small but contains many specialties of France. My only comment here is that it contains perhaps too many specialties (frog legs, pat, whole trout, tripe, cervelle de canut, escargots, etc.). In my opinion, being a French restaurant doesn’t mean you have to put every known French dish on the menu. It just seemed like they tried too hard.Speaking of trying too hard, our server, although friendly, was definitely trying too hard. The server dress code was skinny jeans and a tucked in shirt (in other words, rather casual), but he acted as if he worked for a 5 star restaurant in New York City, certainly a little too much. The service was very slow. Between the time we received the menu until he came to take our order (including appetizers) we waited at least 20 minutes. That might work for a large restaurant, but for some place as small (and believe me, it’s small) and intimate as this, it just seemed rude. Our party ordered the mushroom asparagus tart, the whole trout, frog legs, pork pat and la cervelle de canut (a cheese spread with chvre, garlic and shallots). Everything was good. Not great, but good. The tart was very heavy on the caramelized onions, very light on the asparagus (why is it not then called a caramelized onion tart?). The trout, however, was very delicious. All the bones and skin had been removed, which made it very easy to eat, much appreciated. Everything else was ‘pas mal, mais rien de spcial.’ Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the restaurant, but it was cute, quaint and rather French. The place is in a cute neighborhood and nicely decorated. I’d say try it out, just don’t be ready to be too impressed.
