The BEST cuisine I’ve had whilst in the states. I’ve lived here for a year and toured a lot of the country – bar a michelin star establishment – and this farm to table, Oregon only food & drink place tops it. Staff wonderful, atmosphere and decor amazing and the food and drink stunning! They make their own sodas in a variety of flavors such as ginger or pomegranate and add it to a mixer for a great drink. We loved the Jojo’s – large wedge style fries – octopus salad, lamb, squid ink pasta and the clams. Kid friendly too and experimental cuisine at its best. If in the disputed food capital of the US.. GO HERE.
Ignore all reviews prior to June 2013. I’ve been to the Bent Brick three times, once before and twice after the change in chefs and menu. On my first visit, I agreed with most reviews: while tasting good, portions were tiny, service was slow and the price was too high. I wasn’t going back. However, I read about the change, and went back to see. I’m very glad I did. The food was great focused on the more comfort style but very interesting and flavorful. Drinks were creative, and the portions and prices much more reasonable. Tonight we had the crisp kale salad (think kale chips), black cod, charred Brussels sprouts, and chorizo tacos. The cod and Brussels sprouts were fantastic. The kale salad shouldn’t really be called salad but was very tasty. My husband loved the tacos. The service was also excellent. We’ll be back again.
Not good. The food was not good. Liked the ambiance, the music – but none of us enjoyed our food. I had the salmon puffs, the poached oysters and the liver & waffles. The flavors were just off. Also, as for service, we waited a long, looong, looooong, time. When we left, we all said we wanted to go get something to cleanse our pallets of some unpleasant flavors. The portions were small, but since I did not actually want to finish any of my dishes, it didn’t matter.
Hmmm…. What can you say about Bent Brick? It’s not everyday you can say that you had squid, tongue, duck confit and celery sherbet in one sitting. That said, the food was decent and the atmosphere was great. Small portions but you don’t really need to eat a pound of tongue to get the idea of what the chef was trying to do with it
Hmm, this was interesting. First really enjoyed most of the flavors. The chef combines like you are watching an episode of chopped. I’m ok with the smaller portion sizes, even the larger plates, but price should also be a bit lower. While enjoyable none of the dishes wowed us. There was nothing that said lets come back and try this again. So it’s a thumbs up, and others may love this place, but it will be awhile before we return.
Awesome flavors, but don’t come here if you’re hungry. One dessert item was 1/2 centimeter in diameter. Best flavors, and foam and sauces, on the Planet!!
Tweak the menu and you have a winner.. The building is beautiful but the menu was disappointing. The portions were extremely small and expensive. I asked for suggestion from the waitstaff and ended up ordering three items. The food was flavorless and unrecognizable. On a positive note the staff behind the bar was knowledgeable and engaging. If BB would work on the menu, then this place could be great.
