I have stayed at the Agate Beach Resort and eaten at this establishment several times and not once have I had a bad experience. The food was been flavorful and service friendly and prompt.Price is fair, portions good, atmosphere is warm, and service is on point. My pick? The out of this world mouth watering Dungeons Crab Eggs Benedict. It was so good – and the crab portion was plentiful. Here is my insider tip – check out their breakfast special – for $5 bucks you can get a great breakfast (the last time i got an omelette, potatoes kevinaguilar.com
Tucked just off of Highway 101 at the North end of town, this former Hilton Hotel is now a Best Western. The Rookie (Sports) Bar has a better ocean view that is up close and personal with the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. The Starfish Grill has a more elegant ambience than other, more casual eating establishments catering to tourist and /visitors to the Newport OR area. Everyone in our party was very casually dressed. The food is wonderful: freshly baked rolls, home-made salad dressings…one of the best plates of fish and chips in town. Prices are very fair for the well prepared food and attentive service. THE place to go if you prefer a white linen tablecloth without a stuffy atmosphere!!!
Changed Menu … Not Going Back!. Update May 2013: Returned, Menu has changed, not that good now, will not return, somehow the new chef likes a deep fryer for everything, we are vegetarians and now our favorite items on the old menu are gone. At this place the chef ego appears to me more important than customer satisfaction. Avoiding in the future. The BBQ on the deck is even gone.We ate in Rookie’s Bar and loved the view and the food was oustanding, recommend the Seafood Salad, the Hamburgers, and the Vegetable Wrap with Slaw. Good place to watch March Madness Basketball but I wish they had a Big Screen TV, the TV’s are a little small. We liked the bartender, whose name was Steve, he gave us really good service and told us about the area. We noticed that they not only had a great view of the lighthouse from the bar but also from the outdoor deck. Will return and use the deck. Looks like they BBQ out on the deck too.
Rookie’s Rocks!. We are from Toronto, Canada and were recommended by a couple who was leaving the hotel to be sure to go out on the deck at Rookies. It was a beautiful day, warm, with no wind. Our waiter, Steve, served us some great beer and we really enjoyed the Seafood Salad. Steve gets 6 stars for his Oregon friendliness.
Rookies is Great!. We love the Veggie Wrap Sandwich and wine at Rookies and the outstanding bartender Steve. Dining al fresco on the deck with the wonderful view of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse is a very special and memorable occassion. Do not miss the BBQ’ed salmon, hamburgers, and ribs served from the outdoor BBQ. We really like the house wines for $5, and the wrap sandwiches at $7 are a real bargain.
