Interesting…I think.. T of C is the dining room in the 100 year of Sylvia Beach Hotel (Sylvia Beach is a woman’s name and not, as one might think, an oceanside location) where guests, among others can have a family style dinner with perfect strangers ($25 per head) on a first reserved first served basis. SWMBO and I thought this sounded interesting. Not so much for me, as it turned out, as the din was such that I couldn’t follow the conversations at all. Carol had a great time interacting with six other folks from varying walks of life and locations. I recommend this as a fun time for anyone with normal hearing.Everyone knows the composition of the traditional Thanksgiving Dinner, so I will just let a couple of comments suffice. The appetizer course was a good Oyster Casserole dish. Had I foreseen what was to come, I would have doubled up on this. A diner, at each table was impressed into service as a Turkey carver. By the time the Meat platter made it to my bride and me, there were but two scraps of Dark Meat left. They were good. The White Meat had an off chemical taste to it, is the best but inadequate description I can give. (Carol did not notice this) The rest of the meal and dessert was mediocre and not up to the standard one would expect for the price. The next morning, a quasi-continental breakfast, plus a Ham and Cheese Quiche dish, was provided. This was included in the excessive room cost. Carol said the Coffee was good. Note: The old hotel has some charming aspects, including cutesie author room themes (we were in the Alice Walker) and an attic loft library, but $160 for a 12′ X 12′ spartan room with no closet and not so much as a hook upon which to hang clothes and a floor that was a challenge for even a sober man to walk across seems to be in keeping with the not-much-for-the-money policy. Oh, and bring your own shampoo. None is provided.
