OK, but expected better. We did lunch at Good Taste Restaurant. Was looking for Chen’s on the sign, didn’t see it. But remembered ‘Good Taste Restaurant’ and easily found that on their sign. There is a LOT of food for the money. But nothing great, just okay. Wontons needed more flavorful ingredients in the center. Texture was fine.My Greens with Ginger (Baby Bok Choy) was pretty nicely spiced. About the same flavor as what I make at home. A little ginger, a little oyster sauce, a touch of sugar and that’s about it. Good taste, but overcooked. Baby choy just needs a quick heating, but this was cooked until the crunch was gone. The Super Bowls delivered plenty of food. But they don’t have a lot of intense flavor in any part of them. I want a little ‘oomph’ in my Asian cuisine, and there just wasn’t any here. The duck was tasty, but way too bony. More bone than meat, actually. We left feeling a little disappointed, but very full.

Back to the ’70s. This restaurant reminds me so much of Vancouver’s (Canada) Chinese restaurants in the 60’s and 70’s. Even the decor. The portions were huge and homey. Being spoiled with the refined Chinese foods currently available in Vancouver,my palate was disappointed with some of the dishes. The bbq pork and bbq duck were cold and not particularly juicy. The congee was meh. If you’re looking for homestyle cooking, this would do quite fine; it seems quite economical. cakeonthebrain.blogspot.com
