Authentic cuisine. This restaurant delivers the best Greek food this side of Greece. We asked the waiter to help us make selections because we did not want to miss any of their best items. The two of us shared five plates and we were pleased that the value was excellent. The watermelon and crab green salad is an excellent seasonal addition to the standard menu. The grilled calamari and the moussaka were delicious. The mussels arrived in a sauce that was so good that we ate it as a soup! The fresh branzini was prepared beautifully with subtle flavors of lemon. This is an excellent neighborhood restaurant. We will come back with a few more people so that we can order more dishes to try.

Very slow service, owner rude. Very, very disappointed in our Dec. 21, 2013 experience in this restaurant. The owner was unbelievably rude and unkind to us – while we were attempting to have our once per year family Christmas dinner out! We arrived promptly at 6pm for our dinner reservation. The service was so slow (and at times non-existent), that we finally received our meal at 7:10pm after pleading with the waiter. We had 7:30pm theater tickets right up the street – 90 min should have been more than enough time, especially with a half-full restaurant and a small party. The owner actually SCOLDED us as we ate over $125 worth of food in less than 8 minutes. If this is how the Greeks treat their customers, no thank you!

We had a fantastic dinner. Food all tasted freshly prepared with very good quality ingredients. Portions are the right size, not huge. Don’t be in a hurry – it’s a place where you’re supposed to enjoy friends and conversation as much as the food. We’ll be back for sure!!

Really enjoyed ourselves!. My husband and tried Eleni’s last night (Jan 2, 2013) and had a delightful experience. We opted to do 4 appetizers and a salad for dinner and ALL were just wonderful. Each was priced at $10.00 per plate. The big prawns and the salad with orange, pear and apple were the standouts. For lunch today I am having some leftover large lima beans in a yummy red sauce and stuffed baby eggplant with roasted garilc and feta. It wasn’t very crowded last night and our waitperson was very helpful. The only knock at all would be that the menus were falling apart and the wood panel by our table was a bit dirty looking. I would recommend Elini’s and we will definitely dine there again.

Delicious food and wonderful presentation. The waitstaff was a bitlackluster. They seemed understaffed. Overall, a good experience!

Okay, but too expensive. Overall this is a decent restaurant, but it seems too pretentious. The main menu is fair, but seems to lack in completeness as stand-alone dinners. The specials seemed interesting but were overpriced especially for what they were and the type of restaurant — location, environment, service, etc.For example, the night that we went they had a special of moussaka. (I love moussaka — my mother immigrated from Greece.) It was not on the main menu (in a Greek restaurant?!), but I decided that I was not going to pay $23 for a serving of it. I chose a pasta dish for about half the price off the worn (literally) menu. It was good but was basically only a moderate serving of spaghetti with a sauce with no sides, etc. It was good but . . . for $14?The restaurant was busy, so others must have more money for dining out than us. Service was mediocre. Most of the fish and red meat specials that sounded intriguing were in the $30+ range.Unfortunately most of Portland’s great Greek restaurants have lost their edge or no longer exist. There are other restaurants in Portland area — Greek and otherwise — that have as good or better food for a lot less money.
