Denver Omelet. This is a very delicious omelette!! I order it every time!!
Like stepping into a time machine. First the food and then a little about the place. The breakfast special comes with two pancakes, one egg, and two slices of decent bacon for $3.95. I can’t think of any other place I have been to in years with that good of a deal. But even their regular menu items are all $5-6 or less. The food is respectable and the coffee is not that bad. Places like this are drying up. Sure, you will get a higher quality of food and possibly better service somewhere like Mother’s, but you will pay double or triple for it. There is a special charm to John’s if you are into nostalgia. There appears to be only one waitress and one cook. They have a counter and a few small booths and a slightly larger room adjacent which could hold a larger party. I wouldn’t recommend coming here with more than 4 people though, just because there is not really any room to wait and it feels cramped to begin with. This place could be used as a movie set. It has that much of a vintage feel. It is definitely worth checking out if you work in the downtown era or live close by. I would come back here for sure. Service was friendly and food came out fast.
Just ok. A real greasy spoon. Could use a more positive attitude and a coat of paint. The food was adequate, the coffee terrible and the price is very inexpensive.
Best Lunch Joint Ever. Where else can you get lunch for $4 that has not been sitting under a heat lamp? Your food is cooked after you place your order and Chris or Tom will ask how you’ve been while Jimmy cooks. John’s Cafe has been a fav of mine for over 10 years. The family of Jimmy, Chris, and Tommy is a great addition to the meal. They treat you with joy and respect from the first visit on. They even remember quirky specifics of your order (I don’t like tomato or pickle). And, if you come back frequently enough, they make you feel like family.
Great place for breakfast. Friendly owners and a wonderful meal. This is what mom and pop cafes used to be like.Check out our experience during our April 2010 visit in the student newspaper, The Feather Online. Pretty Good Burger in Old Town. I’ve been looking for a place like this; in fact, I’ve probably walked by this one a dozen times and never noticed it. If you want a crusty diner, so smack dab in the middle of the transient population center, and there it will be. Like John’s.Short menu, short order, plain and simple diner food, with steak and eggs available all day, burgers, cold sandwiches, and dinner entrees that top out at $6.50. Dinners come with fries or mash, soup or salad, bread and butter – you could have a chicken fried steak, pork steak, cutlets, pepper steak, or shrimp. Except for the shrimp at 6.50, most of the dinners are less than five bucks. Two men and an elderly woman, nice as good be, speaking in tongues to each other (Russian?), but cooing soft English to the customers, no matter what ilk the customer comes in.I went with the bacon cheeseburger for a mere $3.75, and it was fine, absolutely fine. Came with piping hot crinkle fries. Onion, pickles, tomato, lettuce on the side.Every food service person likes to add their own little artistry and my server’s stab at this was to balance the mustard pack on top of the ketchup bottle. Nice touch, lady, sez I.I’ll be back. You know I love a hamburger patty and eggs for brekky, and John’s does the trick. burgersdogspizza.com
