Love, love, love PCG. It’s perhaps one of the very few venues in the world that combines an outstanding view with a fabulous restaurant, that isn’t over sold or over priced. The adjoining bar is also a great late night spot, should you decide to stay there all evening or finish the night off.

I asked a lady at the Oregon Tourism booth at PDX what her favorite restaurant was. She recommended the Grill, noting it’s beautiful view and it’s good food. I hopped on the light rails and went downtown, found the building, and went up to the 30th floor. What a lovely space. Lots of windows, beautiful views, etc. I sat at the bar, and saw that they were having happy hour all day on Sunday. I ordered the kale salad and the steel-head with crab meat. Holy cow, best kale salad ever! it was shredded and had peas and carrots and sunflower seeds and it was fabulous. The fish and crab came with waffle fries and asparagus, along with a house made bernaise. Very very good. Those two dishes with a glass of wine cost about $28. I really enjoyed it.

When you go travel to any new city you never been to before, I always say: ask a local where to go. So, who better of a local to ask on my latest trip to Portland then my younger sister? Shes been begging my to visit her for over a year, so I finally caved and booked a ticket to see her in Oregon. She also knows Im a foodie and a happy hour queen, so I trust that she wont take me to just any happy hour in Portland, shell take me to some of the best.Lets just say, she didnt let me down. On my second night, we had plans to eat a later dinner after our trip to the waterfalls at Fogo de Chao, but we were ravenous from the hiking and sun and decided to try a happy hour. Instead of giving me options, she just told me we had to go to thePortland City Grill happy hour inside the pink building. When we drove and noticed the dusk-reflective tinted windows of our destination building, I finally got why they called in pink. The entire structure stuck out like a slightly sunburnt thumb amidst the darker cityscape. It called out, Catch the sunset and sip on happy hour drinks upstairs! Sold. You have to take an elevator once you enter the pink building and it takes you all the way to the top 30th floor where you hear Adeles Hello being played on the piano, along with cocktail shakers shaking and patrons chatting and chuckling. In the lounge area (where they offer happy hour only), its imperative to get a window seat and if that doesnt work, you can still catch the breathtaking view of the city from the bar area.My sister wasnt going to let us miss our window seat opportunity, so we waited patiently for a table to get up and quickly, yet smoothly made our way over to the table and took over the vacated seats. Our table was bussed immediately and our server came over with happy hour menus and mentioned the happy hour wine specials. I asked about the Perfect Pink Margarita and she said its basically a margarita with cranberry juice. We opted for a bottle of the $26 featured happy hour wine (120 Chilean Chardonnay) and ordered some appetizers. We were saving our appetites for dinner so we ordered sparingly and got the $4.95 Caesar salad with romaine, radicchio, Reggiano Parmesan and lemon Dijon vinaigrette and the Crab and Avocado Roll with pickled ginger and wasabi. The Caesar, especially for under $5, was the perfect light and crunchy snack to accompany the wine. I inquired if the California Roll was real crab and was told it was half-and-half (half imitation crab, half real crab). The roll was simple, and only $5.95 probably not the best representation of the happy hour dishes, but nice if you didnt want something heavy. The happy hour at Portland City Grill was stellar because of the beautiful view (you can also see Mount Hood in the distance), its attentive service, and the fact that the happy hour options are plentiful and offered all night on Sundays! Yes, all night!!! If you live in the Portland area just happen to be visiting, stop on in for the sunset and perhaps a Perfect Pink Margarita to match your happy hour mood. lovehappyhour.com

I used to work in the same building and would go to their happy hour regularly- which is fantastic. My personal favorite item being the calamari and spring rolls. It’s a fancier spot: business casual attire, dimmed lights, and WOW- the view of Portland is amazing.

My girlfriend and I went on a Sunday evening. They took a last minute reservation. We found a bar table right next to a window and took it, ordered food, had an appetizer and then we noticed a dining table for two opened up right next to us. So we asked our waitress if we could move and she was super accommodating. Great service for such a busy place. The views are amazing. Had the shrimp and grits as an appetizer and it was delicious. The main courses were also very good as were the drinks. A must visit. Prices for any budget…from expensive main courses to cheaper bar fare.

Top notch. View is 2nd to none in Portland. Ribeye was AMAZING. Best steak of 2015 for me. Calamari was good as well. Get a steak Cooked Pittsburgh style

I’d say that the view alone warrants a trip to the grill atop Portland. With a vast menu spanning steakhouse classics, fresh seafood, new twisted on classics and sushi and a long wine and cocktail list, the restaurant is the best of many worlds. It is pricey and while every dish I tried was exemplary, my fellow dinners were satisfied but not wowed.Service is very prompt and friendly, our waitress was friendly and personable, orders delivered and cleared quickly and efficiently. Taking in the view passed he short time between courses.Starters included the tempura roll, with plenty of briny row and fresh grated wasabi making it an unusually well crafted example of the common roll. The Caesar salad we enjoyed was unspectacular but fresh and we’ll made; the chinooga beet salad, with a pistachio pesto and balsamic was extraordinary! A loaf of sourdough sealed the deal and only sadly helped to fill us even more quickly.Entres including the salmon and halibut specials were good. The sides were unique: fresh gnocchi and asparagus beneath the tender salmon and cauliflower and a mushroom pastry with a savory soy-like sauce with the latter. The halibut, well bronzed was a bit dry. I personally felt the pork tenderloin and house mustard was the best I’d had, served with dry fried beans and a classic mash.It is a bit expensive and I expect perfection for that. While food was delicious if not perfectly executed, all other aspects of my meal were superb and I was satisfied fully at the grill over Portland.
