Dined alone for late lunch following a conference downtown. Great experience! Staff were friendly and my server did an excellent job assisting me with food and beer selection. She also made excellent food recommendations! (Apple onion tart – add the bacon!) Atmosphere was warm and inviting. Families present and welcome. Seat by the window was great for people watching near Powell’s Bookstore. I will be back and bring husband and friends!
This place was buzzing when we walked in, and it wasn’t hard to see why. Deschutes is a huge space but inviting, I thought the huge wooden carvings were really cool. We sampled 6 of the classic brews, I was a fan of the pale ale and the Black Butte Porter in particular. I tried the Green Goddess salad with smoked salmon which had the perfect amount of dressing, and having the smoked salmon definitely made the dish. I tried the Chocolate Meltdown for dessert, which reminded me of my mum’s chocolate self saucing pudding, yum! The peanut butter ice cream was amazing. The service here was fantastic and I’d say if you wanted to have an exceptional brew pub experience in Portland, Deschutes would be a wise choice.
Excellent food and drink. Went twice on our trip to explore the beer menu. Highly recommend this as a stop in Portland. Expect a wait to be seated.
Put it simply, you walk in for good beer, and pub grub, and that is what you get and more. The atmosphere of the place is absolutely phenomenal, the service staff is not only friendly, but they are more than willing to actively engage with you and help you figure out what you will or will not like. The food is trade mark pub grub with a twist and a spin putting it above the standard fair by leaps and bounds. The beer is absolutely wonderful to the point that I had to hand my keys over to my cohort due to accidentally (this really wasn’t much of an accident) drinking one too many. If you are willing to drop a bit of money, but not too much you will not go wrong here in the slightest, if you don’t have a budget for dinner or lunch, I would recommend stopping here at some point for one of those dinners. If you are on a tight budget save up some money to treat yourself and your special hop headed other to a wonderful meal and beer.
I’m not sure if the regular line to get a table or seat at this place is due to the popular name and well known brews, the so-so to above average food, or the service that seems to move at a surprisingly slow pace. In any case, expect a wait, especially in the bar area. It’s not that Deschutes isn’t good, it just doesn’t seem to warrant the wait with so many other comparable options in the area.
Loved the ambience and the house brewed IPA. Always crowded the place has an unexplained charm! The beer menu is longer than the food menu! But definitely one of the better bars in Portland.
Fresh beer and great food. The spicy chicken and waffle was amazing! It came with a kale pecan and fennel salad with a maple dressing. Perfection on a plate.
