Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Crispy potatoes w steak & eggs. Potatoes had a skin of crisp otherwise thy were soft and soggy. Steak pieces were tasteless but tender. Ambiance was great!! Loved the glass tilt up walls. Staffs was wonderful. Latte was great.
I love the urban energy of Isabel’s. They can roll open large doors which is perfect for enjoying Portland’s summer breezes. They also have tasty breakfast specials with a Mexican flair like Chilaquiles Rojos.
They say it’s pan-Asian, I say it’s generous and delicious! Fast, friendly and attentive service. Modern decor but probably time for a refresh. Recommended for breakfast. We may try their dinner menu too.
Had delicious fish tacos for a late lunch. Beautiful plate, very tasty. Served with black beans and brown rice.
Both breakfast and lunch are so delicious! Servers are always friendly and keep my coffee cup filled 🙂
Mothra Says….Asian Latin Fusion. Its Ms birthday and we met at Life of Riley just down the street for a drink. After a terrific hour there, we marched the 40 yards to Isabel without a reservation and found a table for four in the well lit back area of the restaurant. I noticed right away the bar was made of a rough cut slab of a polished wood. I know this is off topic, but the bar was beautiful. I mentioned that to the bartender/server Jacob who agreed. After being seated, Jacob showed up at the table and while taking our drink order, he took a lot of time to tell us about the menu and the specials as well. Jacob was back within about 10 minutes with Ms (no, the other M) pineapple jalapeo margarita. I took a sip and Wow!, it was spicy without being over the top. Very flavorful. K, M, & I had a bottle of Mumms from the cellar de Mothra for Ms birthday. While we sipped our drinks, Jacob took our order. While we waited the rather short 15 mins for our entrees, our plate of shoestring plantains with a spicy aoli sauce and a plate of carnitas arrived. The carnitas was tender pork laid atop of a slice of plantain mashed down with a salsa fresca and a spicy aoli. A plate of four was just enough to give you a taste of how good this chef was in the kitchen. Jacob arrived with our entrees: Ks flat iron steak with Plantain shoestring fries, sauted kale, broccoli and carrots, all with a fresh salsa on top; and my Seared Sea bass (with crunchy skin on) with sweet potato puree, roasted asparagus spears, and saffron. I will tell you that this pureed sweet potato with the added saffron was really very tasty. This is something that K and I will have to work on at the casa de Mothra. To be fair, I was not overly impressed with the sea bass, but K had a bite and loved it. Her flat iron steak was cooked medium rare and was beautiful. I will have that the next visit.Great ambiance, exciting menu, great service with Jacob, a very knowledgeable server & bartender, and great company with M & M, another terrific evening. I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner or for lunch. It is a unique restaurant even in Portland. We will be back. Mothra says….. 3.75 of 5.0
Bland, bland, bland. Their food is in desperate need of flavoring. No salt, no herbs/spices. Beyond bland.
